Danny Fireblade 66
I am thinking of applying for a .223 for fox and an open cert at the same time, currently I have a FAC and SGC for nearly 2 years but I am 41 and have just retired from the Army after 23 years, over 100,000 rounds fired and am now a police officer. Any suggestions to how to word my letter and exactly what to request? I have a golf course at nearly 500 acres and a farm at just under 300 acres already cleared for my .22 rf. Many thanks Quote Link to post

Bigad 136
They will want proof that you have fired a cf rifle not in army but in civi street . I had to get my mate to take me out with him then write me a letter saying I had done it with his number on so they could ring and check with them Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Very true bigad, I'm ex army as well danny and sadly it don't count unless you have a referee who is already an owner of a fac in rimfire or cf who can vouch for you. 17hmr or .22lr on the golf course sounds best. If you want the .223 it might have to be closed first off but after enough practice and proving your competence through the paper trail you leave on your FAC (ammo bought n used) on land or a range then you can apply to have it opened after anything from 6 months...ask your feo for advice and hopefully he will be one that'll help and not be one of the few who'll stone wall you. charlie caller 3,654
You already have section 1 experience, so that is a starter for ten, if your ground is cleared for a .223 or bigger apply what I would not do is apply on the basis of getting an open fac if your ground is not passed for .223, as it is unlikely that you will be granted an open ticket on first cf grant, if you have shooting friends that have cf rifles, a letter stating your competency, from one of them will go a long way, if your ground is only passed for .22rf you will have to ask for it to be re- checked, or get some more land already passed, it can seem a little daunting I know, the first step is to find out what your land is passed up to,and take it from there, if its passed, happy days, if not get it passed, when you apply for your cf ask for your rf rifles to be opened up, as this is a further step closer to getting your cf opened, good luck and keep us updated, any more questions, ask away Quote Link to post
Danny Fireblade 66
Cheers for the replies guys, I have a couple of friends who have CF and they can write a letter if required so hopefully that will help with the variation. Looks like I will be asking for the land to be checked first, hopefully that won't be a problem otherwise I will have to start hunting for CF cleared land, that should be fun, lol. If anyone has a letter template that has worked for them then that would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers 1 Quote Link to post
