lindsay 1
Hi, was thinking about getting a bedlington whippet pup, the mother is 3/4 bedlington 1/4 whippet, and the father is full bedlington, would these still be racey dogs, i mean for rabbits on the lamp and ferreting?? never had one before so all info would help. cheers Quote Link to post
beddiwhuppet 10
i would hold fire if your set on a beddi/whippet get a 1st generation cross or 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddi ,thats just my opinion though , those pups would make good little bushers ,could be yappy for the lamp but hey i could be wrong you may get a good throw back too the whippet, all the best with your decision anyway cheers. Guest SJM
Basically the pup will be 7/8 Bed 1/8 Whippet so all you will get is a racier version of a bedlington. Im not keen on bedlington lurchers, I had one years ago and allthough she did a fair job at filling the bag, she had one of those very soft coats that got soaked easily and she was quite a fragile type who seemed to get knocked up awful easy and was always shivering and chittering and generally looking miserable on a long days hunting/ferreting or a nights lamping. I think a straight bed/grey or bed/whippet would be a better idea but its up to you Quote Link to post
bill88 6
You'd have to be carefull of Copper Toxicosis as well,if your putting bedlington blood to bedlington blood.I've a nine month old beddyxwhippet, only use her with the ferts at the minute, but she's a great wee grafter, roll on Christmas so i can get her out in the open. terriermaid 3
its a shame your so far away ,my whippet bitch had 8 pups on friday mated to a bedlington and hes dna copper tested Quote Link to post
david2363 42
I think the fundamental mistake that people make with this cross is to use a show type "psuedo" Bedlington to the Whippet. When a proper working type Beddy is used the results are so much better , i.e. coat, nose, hunting ability and general drive. Quote Link to post
