A bit of the subject but I was fishing with my 7 year old last week and the man that owns the beat his wife is half native American ....so the weeman asks me what is Native American so I explained that they were a great race that todays society you could learn a lot from same with tribes in south America and Africa ....I said have you not learnt about them at School ?...no he said ...so what people have you been learning about .....Islam was his answer we have been learning about Islam ...WTF

The destruction of native peoples has been happening for ever, its part of our evolutionary past, but a shame when so called civilised people carry it out. For me the story of the San people, often termed Bushmen, of southern Africa is on of the saddest, a people who were likely as near as we could get to how our first ancestor lived. Alas the Zulus came down from the north and enslaved all they found, the fair skinned women were prized, whilst the Europeans came up from the north killing them without shame, just taking the children as slaves. As a youngster I was fascinated by cave paintings and what our ancestors though about and why they did them. The San were cave painters and to our shame the last of these were shot by a European, he carried his pigments in a shell palette along with his brushes. What could we have learned from this diminutive artist to show light on from whence we came and how we thought?

The few remaining san people have an affinity to the paintings, being able to see more than others in them but no longer paint or have the knowledge to do so. These were perhaps the greatest hunters man has ever produced but we slaughtered them, at a distance with rifles as they were to “ dangerous” to fight otherwise.

On a side note, anybody seen the pictures of the 1000s of Bison skulls piled up ? This was ordered by congress to starve the Indians off the plains,full scale genocide to remove a native people from there lands. Full scale hunting trips were organised to kill every bison they could,only in the US of A . It was so effective that Bison went from 30 million to nearly extinct .

Although large scale Bison hunts were organised with the express intent of clearing the natives from the land, there is no way a 19th century colonist power could kill 30 million. Just think about that number for a bit.

 

The Nazis were a very advanced industrial nation who devoted considerable resources to exterinating undesirables. Even with large scale cooperation of their victims (read the book 'Auschwitz'to learn more about how complicit many Jews and others were in running the death camps) they only killed 3-5 million over several years.

 

The real cause of buffalo extermination was disease inadvertantly spread to them from cattle.

 

The myth that the white man is solely responsible for the destruction of the Buffalo is part if the wider sense of white guilt which is so fashionable these days.

 

Prior to the white mans arrival there were no horses in the Americas. There was only 300 years between Columbus and the Indian wars. The Apache walked everywhere. Their only beast of burden (as well as a major food source) was the dog.

 

I have no axe to grind with the Native Americans (or First Nation People as it is fashionable to call them) but let's keep some perspective and no get too romantic.

 

Indigenous peoples have always been displaced by settlers with superior technology or numbers. For example the Native Alaskans (or Eskimos) are now known to be a race of outsiders who displaced and exteinated the original inhabitants.

 

The British Isles were invaded by the Normans in 1066 who displaced the ruling Saxon Class. The Saxons had previously invaded and displaced the ruling British peoples who displaced the Native Celts. How far back do you want to go?

 

Ghengis Khan and his Mongol hordes were almost single handily responsible for the destruction of the Persian Empire and the religion of Zoroastrian. They exterminated whole city states. There are accounts of the taking a city's populace into a mountain pass 10,000 at a time and killing them.

 

Life is a battle and all the world is constantly at competition with every other part.

My fathers sister moved to America when she was 17 to be an au pair ... She stayed there and married a yank fella who's grandmother was an Arapaho Indian my cousin Steven is blond haired and blue eyed but his sister looks like Pocahontas ... She looks exactly like a Native American with a slight western look ... very pretty girl ..........

It's not as if the indians wern't killing and enslaving each other before europeans arrived. They even sided with different europeans such as the french and british in order to kill and wipe out their rival tribes. What about the solutrean blades that have been found in america, dating back to stone age france, along with the kennewick man and god knows how much suppressed evidence that europeans where in the americas before the asiatic native americans arrived..
