Removing Guts From A Rabbit

Recommended Posts

I'm guessing this method bruises the hell out of the rib cage area?

Reason I ask is where our rabbits go, they come out of jackets & sold whole on the counter so a black & blue top half wouldn't look quite as appealing.

Still might have a play on a young'un though just for the hell of it - ferrets aren't likely to object

You push from just below the rib cage down so your not breaking Its ribs. Once you got the knack you can do it alot quicker. We haven't had trouble as of yet with the older rabbit. Also I don't catch 5 rabbits and then gut them all together I gut them then and there.

If it's done soon after killing the rabbit you can get post mortem bruising but once the blood stops pumping and the rabbit has cooled you can't get any bruising .......

Load of bollocks about being less messy, you still have to skin and open the rabbit up only if you use this method, there's shit everywhere when it's opened because you pop the stomach. Lot cleaner and a lot less effort required with a good sharp knife
