I find it alot easier and less hassle if I'm honest. Everyone has their way of doing things for many years I used to use a knife. I seen this method tried it and works best for me

been using this method a few years now, the guys from Holland showed it a friend of mine many moons ago

I use a Stanley knife with just the tiniest point of the blade showing if the blades new a quick slash and you open them up with out puncturing the guts takes seconds to do when you get the knack

ive tried 'wringing them out' a few times and only ever manage to crack their back and get a lovely squelching noise from them!

 

is there more of a trick to it than pushing everything down and keeping going?

i actually done this for the first time at the weekend, handy to know but a was fecked after about 5 lol out came the knife.

Yeh it's a little novelty trick,,,that's fun to show folk,,,and it's deffo easier at this time of year on younger smaller rabbits....

 

But you try it on a big winter rabbit of the fells,,,them big 5 pound bucks,,,,all that happens is you make mess..like muddy said get a stanly,,,,or a craft knife with the snap off blades

On the subject of gutting, I took a grinder to a old pocket knife I had knocking around and made it into a gutting knife by rounding the tip off, I've had no more burst shitters since using it.
