pie-eater 377
Been using the roughneck micro last 3 seasons and as much as I like it I could do with a bigger spade. Im looking at the bulldog rabbiting spade, bloody expensive but Ive used bulldog shovels at work and they are built to last. Just wondering how heavy the bulldog is? because I walk to all my perms. Anyone know the cheapest place to get one? Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,066
Well it's heavier than the little rough neck,,,,but a full length spade you don't actually carry,,,unless you tie string to each end and carry it over your shoulder ,,,no you use it like a walking stick,,,and hold the handle and walk with it.... Funily enough when I'm carrying all our rabbits off the hill (ferreting partner is a glass backed fecker),, I won't let him carry the spade as it helps with my decent ,,,keeping me steady.. I don't thing there expensive only about £30 ,,,last for years mate,,,,was a chap on here a few month back had to buy a new one,,,after 30 years,,,not cos he broke it,,,,he left it some were .... 1 Quote Link to post

Bull&Ferret 12
Having trouble finding a spade myself. I'm after one with a longer shaft as I'm 6'3 and find myself wanting a bit more length (cue the puss taking). I use bulldog at work and the quality is second to none. Weight isn't a major issue. Any suggestions lads? Thanks. Quote Link to post
GazSBT 8
Iv just bought one of those roughneck micros, seems up to the job and well built, and only £17 Quote Link to post
budgie123 163
Bulldog Rabbitting spade with fibre glass shaft indistructable. My mate has one which is possible 20 years old and still going strong. He baught fibre glass one after breaking a number of wooden shafted spades. Go on bullddog site and locate nearest supplier. The wieght of this spade is in my opinion one of its assets. We ferret some hard areas with a lot of flint and this spade makes light work of it. You would realy struggle with a lighter spade here. 3 Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
Bull dog transplanting spades are a grand little spade..... If you only digging a few feet. Once you have to use the spade upright, you struggle to remove and dirt, unless you dig a wider than needed hole. I still havent got round to getting foot plates welded on mine yet either, crippling when you get it wrong.. 2 Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
Are the transplanting spades and the rabbiting spades the same thing bob? Someone mentioned on another thread using the plastic scoops from poundland to remove the dirt. Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
Yes they are one and the same. Basically a large trowel on a shaft. great piece of kit, but I wouldnt want it as my only spade. Quote Link to post
