Just checked out the odds on Paddy Power...they've got Abraham a heavy favourite at 1/5 with Smith 7/2. I like Smith so I've banged a tenner on him but I think the bookies are about right. WTF...you never know in boxing.

 

Not seen the undercard yet but there's bound to be at least another one of the Smith bros on it. Hopefully a few more Brit fighters.

Hard to see Smith getting past the mid rounds if Abraham is on his game........think the only other Brit on the card is Macklin.

Smith fought very well thought he nicked it but lost on a wide points margin the scoring was a disgrace.

Could understand Abraham edging it on points but 119-109 on one of the cards! Not the first decision like this we've ever seen but this sh!t damages the reputation of boxing.

 

Edited to add, just watched Smith's post fight interview and, after just fighting probably the toughest twelve rounds of his life and suffering his biggest disappointment, the way he conducted himself was world class. The lad's a credit to himself, his family, his gym and to boxing. Think I've just seen both about the best & the worst sides of boxing tonight.

I thought smith won by 2 rounds nothing Abraham done convinced me otherwise ,but that's fighting in Germany for you unless smith stopped him he was never going to win .

Abrahams promoter said he had his fighter winning by 5/6 rounds ,not sure what fight he was watching though ..

decisions like this leaves boxing in a bad name imo.

I had Smith a head by a round or maybe 2...you just know if its close its not going to go our way over there...always been the same...years back...boring old Kruat IBF super middle Champ Sven Ottke...held on to his title with some dubious decisions...and never fought out of his own back yard...Smith looked good last night...enjoyable fight...apart from the decision

I thought George Groves told it about right,i had Abraham just nicking it but a point or 2 either way i wouldnt of argued......but to give Smith only 1 or 2 rounds in a fight with no knockdowns i thought was disgusting...........on effective scoring punches i thought Abraham shaded it but Smiths persistence was enough to give him a shout he surprised me i only really had him down as a domestic level fighter but he certainly came to the front last night.......throughout the fight i thought Abraham looked absolutely dead at the weight,then aftewards they said he had dropped 20lb in the last 2 weeks so makes sense.

 

Before we start talking about corruption etc...we,ve had our own fair share of iffy decisions dont forget.......Ricky Burns draw last year

Anyone remember when Robin Reid fought Sven Ottke over there ? that was a robbery,no wonder Ottke retired undefeated . As for Smith he gave his all and the scorecards did not reflect the fight at all .

Fair comment Gnasher, and if I'm honest I wasn't on here moaning about that result. I was at the Beltran fight and remember the collective 'cringe' of the few fans left in the arena when the decision was announced. You'll not see a more partisan crowd but they knew their man was beaten fair and square. Was talking to a guy in the hotel after the fight who'd been to all Burns' fights and he was gutted that Ricky had been gifted a draw. Burns is an honest and likeable kid and he knew it too.

 

When a decision is as contentious as this one card is though it must surely be down to an incompetent judge, or something more sinister. I know that three judges will seldom see a fight exactly the same way, and I'm not naive enough to think that boxing is squeaky clean, but it stinks a bit and puts people off. Since the advent of satellite TV boxing has had a massive increase in 'profile' and must have seen untold wealth pour into the sport. A bit like top level football, everything happens in front of the cameras and is scrutinised to death. I think that the governing bodies are a bit faceless and I'd like to see them address some of these decisions a bit more publicly.

 

As you can probably tell, I'm taking the loss of this tenner a bit hard.
