Jax13 251
i got my first ferrets this week (yesterday in fact) and its my intention to feed a varied diet consisting mainly of rabbit and a complete dry food but i was curious about feeding other things to supplement their diet a little. i have a hog roast business and as such, most weekends i have leftover roast pork that i can no longer eat (too much of a good thing!) and was wondering whether the ferrets would A, get any benefit from it from a nutritional point of view and B, just have it as a treat once or twice a week (i'm thinking i could feed it alongside the complete food for a couple of days then feed fresh bunny the rest of the week.) also, on the pigs the kidneys are left in and as a rule, they end up in the bin. again, would there be any nutritional benefit to feeding them or is it worth trying it just as a treat. again, i could give them for a couple of days alongside the kibble. lastly, what is the general opinion on egg feeding? ive read a lot of conflicting things about it so don't really know what to think with regards to giving them at all or just chucking one in every week or two (we have chickens and geese so would look at using these on the day they are laid rather than two week old crappy shop bought ones!) many thanks. tsteve9999 456
I can 't see small amounts of cooked pork doing any harm but personally I wouldn't give mine it very often. We've got chickens and my ferrets get 2 or 3 eggs a week with no problems at all. Cat food and chicken wings are good if you're looking for a varied diet too Quote Link to post
krawnden 1,036
I wouldn't have a problem with feeding fresh egg once a week or the pig's kidneys (raw), but personally I'd be dubious about giving mine cooked meat of any description. But to be fair, I've never tried it so can't comment based on experience. Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
Mine have an egg once a week, any offal is OK but i wouldn't make it there main source of food maybe once or twice a week.Personally i wouldn't feed cooked meat . Quote Link to post
norseman 424
fresh rabbit and dry feed is good, i give mine egg yokes once a week as a treat, and it seems to give them a sheen on their coat. i dont think pork is recommended for ferrets to be honest even cooked or raw. 1 Quote Link to post
oxo 441
mine get whatever is about, rabbits, pigeon, jackdaws, love mice, eggs, chicken wings, dried food, DAF frozen food and they do like a bit of leftover roast chicken on a Sunday! Quote Link to post
The one 8,469
I dont think i would be feeding cooked pork read too much about the salt content , eggs once a week too much can cause hair loss . kidneys the same once a week , i prefer to feed mine rabbit and fresh water all year round Quote Link to post
