General lee 979
These overweight men with shaved heads and tattoos are a dime a dozen in every town they all think they're killers with ties to the military and they all say they had bare knuckle fights until some one takes them up and most are shown to be full of shit a fat gut shaved head and tattoo doesn't make a fighter bare knuckle and pro fighting is a whole different ball game one can't live with the other

MickC 1,825
Mclean was beaten bare knuckle by a man named Micky Gluckstad who also has a book out . That would depend if you accept him as being part of the human race, plenty of folk dont. I know what you mean Gnasher/Yokel, I bought the book then found out later what he had been locked up for, wouldnt have bought it had I known . Monaghans book was a decent read, think he had 114 fights unbeaen and became mates with Ali along the way . Edited September 27, 2014 by MickC

Hareydave 1,214
The black guy Bert Cooper was a good pro in his day,he was only ever a pumped up cruiserweight but fought for a world heavyweight title......went on to become a bit of a journeyman sadly but still shows the gap between pro and street !so where do you rate Lenny McLean ? Could he have went far in the pro game? Lennie was near unbeatable without gloves....with gloves he probably wouldnt of made it as a pro, particularly when you think Johnny Waldron knocked him out in the first round twice and he was only a southern area title standard light heavyweight.....Lennie was a fearsome fighting man but he wasnt a boxer. was he ever defeated bare knuckle? Have you ever heard of any pros going into the bare scene and doing well?fella called monaghen [not rinty]from here was a pro.ended up bare scene done well.was he a gypsy? Any domestic men do any good? few say silver mc.kee had a few in london.. yeah rent boys

YOKEL 2,276
regards books, four kings, about hagler/duran/leonard and hearns is a belter. just started reading "no middle ground" about the benn/eubank/watson match ups, aint far enough into it to give an opinion yet...Bare fists by bob mee is a good book on the days before gloved boxing, giving accounts from broughton and slack, right thru to sullivans fight with kilrain. great read for the history buffs!
