neil82 1,080
the only time legal questions arise on this is what are you approved to shoot with your FAC gun, as far as using an air rifle goes the only stumbling block is can you kill it cleanly, if you do that and can show there was no cruelty involved then to me no offence has occurred, this may cause an outcry but, as with all prey, a well placed shot does the job regardless, if it can penetrate the skull and rattle about or pass through if it does enough brain damage its dead, end of Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
i dont think its fair to try and take a fox out with a sub 12lb air rifle the chances of a humane clean kill are very slim Agreed, but the act of shooting a fox with a 12ft lb is not illegal, it may well, however, lead to problems under the mass of cruelty legislation we have in this country. i thought it was illegal pal A common misconception bought about I suspect by the media......... Headlines like "Mr XXXXXX was convicted of cruelty and causing undue suffering after shooting a fox with an air rifle!", may well lead people to think that. The air rifle itself has nothing to do with it as such, if he pokes his eyes out with his fingers he may also have been convicted, that doesn't make fingers illegal, it is the action of cruelty that is illegal. There are no minimum legal calibres/energy etc. for shooting fox in this country. The only animal that most people may have dealings with, which has Legal specification of shooting kit is deer, although Badger and Seal have requirement! Quote Link to post
