RemyBolt 420
With snaring, it is not right to set the snare where the animal could fall off and be 'hung'. This is my reading of the law. However, what about squirrel poles where there are snares all the way around it? The reason I'm asking is because I would like to use a squirrel pole style system for rats, however, I want to be 100% law abiding. Any information would be much appreciated. Quote Link to post
MR TEA POT 1,287
The law says target animal should not get hung, but then it's legal to use squirrel poles with snares on.....it's like rabbits caught on a pig mesh fence sometimes they jump about, and go through fence higher up so technically hung themselves so to speak...yet it's legal to fence snare rabbits..there is no clear understanding its a bit of a grey area? 1 Quote Link to post
RemyBolt 420
Thanks for the info Mr Tea Pot. For the sake of legality, I'll keep my snares on the floor Quote Link to post
MR TEA POT 1,287
It's the same with rat bow snaring you need a sapling bent over near the run so when rat gets snared it springs up keeping rat off the ground so in a sence its hung but again not illegal to use bow snaring for rats? 1 Quote Link to post
MR TEA POT 1,287
Good luck with snaring let us know how you get on.....I'm out this weekend hopefully set a few wires for a couple of hares missus wants one for dinner and got a buyer for any more I catch? 1 Quote Link to post
RemyBolt 420
Apparently my wife is on it's way, so I'm hyped about that. I used to work selling electrical wire, so made a few calls and they've got hold of some 26 gauge (it might have been 28 gauge I forget if it's 26 or 28) for me super cheap! As soon as it arrives (definitely in the post) I'll be armed with meters of 0.457 brass wire! Poor rats. Shot up in the night, then when I'm gone...I'm still taking them out. Quote Link to post

RemyBolt 420
On a more serious, and more interesting note, I now have a load of brass wire. Time to start practicing making snares! I could be setting them on Saturday morning after ratting (around 2:30am), so it's time to start asking millions of questions. Also, going to ask a friend if I can borrow their lounge to watch Woodga's DVD. If the answer is yes, I'll purchase a copy. Quote Link to post
shropshire mole 190
Does Woodga`s dvd show rat snaring? or do you simply make rabbit snares smaller but same principle?? Quote Link to post
