WILF 48,542
May be a silly question but what species are you allowed to hunt/shoot year round ? Also, what the crack wildfowling.....do you have to be a member of a club or are certain areas open to the public with a permit? Cheers boys
neil cooney 10,416
Wilf generally your allowed hunt vermin all year round ie. rabbits and foxes. Pigeons although considered vermin have a season. The duck season in Eire is September 1st to 31st January. There are some local laws regarding geese and we don't have anything like the numbers of geese you have in Britain. My advice would be to join your local gun club as you'll then be insured and will automatically have 100s if not 1000s of acres of permission to shoot over. Membership is usually 100 to 150 euro per annum. Whether your fancy is vermin, game or hunting with dogs you must have permission from the land owner but in Eire it's usually given especially if you look and sound respectable to the farmer. Firearm restrictions etc. are much tighter in Eire compared to Britain, ie. you must have an individual license per gun as opposed to your FAC that allows you to own several guns. There's a season on hares and even though you can legally shoot hares with a shot gun here in Eire we like to cut the balls off anyone caught shooting one. The hare is considered very much a sporting animal but in Eire it's illegal to run one with a lurcher and it seems to be an activity that the authorities take seriously. Hope this helps.

neil cooney 10,416
The Irish Government a few years ago did a census on the Muntjac population in County Wicklow so as to carry out a cull and the result was that they were too established. They've also been shot in other locations around Ireland.

Cheers boys As far as I know, you can shoot the major rivers and lakes, once you have a foreshore licence stating the rivers and lakes, you intend shooting!
