My First Air Rifle

Recommended Posts

Had an idea of buying an out of date shoulder of pork so I can see how deep the pellet goes. I like to turn things into an experiment haha. Couldn't get one from Asda though

Theeee random'ist thing Ive read on here.

Haha. Surely someone's tried it? If your hunting meat then shooting a piece is a good test? I used to hit strawberries and grapes with my mrs dads. Something about watching something get destroyed when target practice make it more exciting I think. Paper targets are ok but holes in paper ain't fun.

Hmm. Your getting into air guns for the wrong reasons my man. I guess you like the sport and such, but surely the art of airguns is consistency and accuracy... not penetration tests. Shooting 'meat' will show you nothing apart from a hole, a very small hole in fact. A rabbits head doesn't work the same way. Nor does a pigeons feathers.

Get your shots and technique nailed first...

As an edit. You maybe right, I dont know what the others members think, but Ive never really thought of plinking at 'meat'.

You hit the nail on the head with that last post Rez

Have a search in the technical section. A thread was put up by a chap testing pellets and using ballistics gel. Interesting read. It may take some finding as it was a couple of years ago.

Stick to targets Chris.

Im not goin out looking to blow an animals head off mate lol. Im after a clean kill in that dept. I just like seeing things destroyed with targets. Eg fruit is good. Its fun. Try it, when u see a mouldy plum smash its quite fun. Might just be me i dunno.

We used to shoot action man, eggs, shook up cans of pop, cd's , apples water bottles etc.. basically anything that would smash when you hit it.. in my mates back garden with a crossman pump up with plastic 'irons' and a ratcatcher with a 3-9x40 scope when i was getting into shooting. Just a laugh as a kid.. then i got into hunti g after getting a decent gun.. bsa supersport/hw99s then my addiction for nice rifles and blood lust for nice tasting rabbits and pigeons grew from there. Those were the days.
