Daz39 962
Went up to work tonight with Mac, they have a big VIP visit this week so they wanted to make sure the pest numbers were down. I've been playing around with pellets recently, first with some heavies, 3 different types, and then with some JSB exacts. I have to say, nothing felt quite right, so I went and bought some of my fave pellets, H&N FTT and we looking forward to getting back to normal with them. I told Mac I'd see him at 2:30 but I arrived 10 mins early. I realised I didn't have any wood to put my shoot N see targets on to zero the scope so I decided to go round the back of the site where the pallets are stored. I took the HW100 for a walk just in case. Happily enough, first patch of grass and I spot a rabbit 40 yards off. The grass is soaked from an earlier downpoor so I decided to get a little closer for a kneeling shot rather than go prone in the wet. I got a few yards forward and the rabbit looked twitchy, so I took a knee and pop, H&N FTT in the napper. Paced it to 34 yards.... as I went to pick it up, I happened to look down a hedge line and spotted another rabbit facing away from me. I left the first rabbit where it was and used a fence to cover me as I stalked closer. I got to the corner of the fence, again took a knee and rested on the fence. Pellet hit right in the back of the head putting number 2 down instantly. 28 yards paced. So far, happy with the pellets. I picked up a broken slat of wood and met Mac round the front of site to scope up. oddly enough, my scopes were pretty spot on! We split up and went different ways round the site. I spotted a rabbit and went to take a shot, but before I could it ran under a huge industrial skip. Dumb bunny just sat there, so I walked back from the skip about 20 yards, went prone on the road and shot the rabbit cleanly. 3 shots, 3 kills...one rabbit now 8 foot under an industrial skip.......ahhh crap. I managed to find a great big bit of pipe with which to hook the rabbit and so managed to get it in the bag. As I walked round I saw Mac go to take a shot on a rabbit, he missed and it ran into a neighbouring school field. We walked over to the fence and the rabbit lay in the grass, "did you hit it?" I said, "no" said Mac, "well it looks dead to me" says I, at which point, up jumps bunny and runs 50-60yrds BACK onto the work site. Macs second shot made no mistakes and put the rabbit down. Bad choice bunny. On another walk, Mac went after a rabbit but as he went prone, it ran off, so we went to the smoking area for Mac to have a tab and I said I was going to have a walk. I went back to where the rabbit was that Mac chased and the thing was back out already. It was facing away from me so I used the skip from before as cover and went prone behind it. A 30 yard shot directly in the back of the head and he rolled over instantly too. After meeting back at the car for some scran, and Mac giving me hassle for shooting "his" rabbit, we split up again and walked different directions round site. I go to the pallet store and saw a rabbit run under a stack of pallets. I'd seen him 2-3 times already today. I decided to lay up and wait. Sure enough he runs back out after 10 mins but runs beyond where I am aiming. As I try to adjust, someone whistles and rabbit runs back to the pallets. I then moved back 10 yards to more cover and waited again. After another 15 mins, he comes back out, and again runs beyond where I am aiming. Due to the cover, I couldn't take a normal right handed shot, so I switch eyes, and hands and shot with my left. Same effects, 1 dead rabbit. Mac had also picked up a rabbit on his tour so we were at 5-2 for me. We had a couple more walks and saw very little else, once the lamps came out, the rabbits ran much quicker! I left Mac after cleaning the 7 rabbits (JJM, Mac has them for you for tomorrow, clean and ready for you). I don't know if he managed to pick up anymore, but with a few magpies, crows and pigeons, it was a solid night. Hope work are happy! Mac will stick some pics up later. 3 Quote Link to post

No but seriously folks, was there a similar mark on the other side of it's head? Just wondering if it might have survived a .22 rimfire round through the sinuses... Rez 4,961
Nice post, read and images. I dropped a rabbit myself a month or two ago now and noticed the same facial markings etc. again, the eyes were crystal clear and no fatigue in running around before shot. 1 Quote Link to post
