Admission Vouchers For Ballynahinch Game Fair

Recommended Posts

ALL OWNERS OF CHAMPIONS ENTERING THEIR DOGS IN THE SPECIAL TERRIER, LURCHERS and WHIPPET CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE FAIR at MONTALTO ESTATE on SATURDAY 27th SEPTEMBER GET TWO TICKETS WITH THEIR ENTRY BUT THIS MUST BE MADE NOW TO KIERAN YOUNG SO HE CAN GET YOUR TICKETS OUT.

I have had quite a few people wanting to know can we give them a discount for simply attending or bringing their ferrets. THE ANSWER IS YES. We did publish a £10 OFF a double or family ticket in the SHANES CASTLE PRIGRAMME but some have apparently misplaced this so we will POST OUT SIMILAR VOUCHERS to anyone contacting us on irishgamefair@btinternet.com before COB TUESDAY. Name & Address please.

TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FAIR :

1. We are describing it as a GAME FAIR with STYLE - Montalto Estate has been closed to the public for over 27 years during which it has undergone fantastic upgrading and improvement. We felt it was the ideal location to run an 'End of Season/ Start of shooting/hinting season' celebratory event with lots of style and entertainment for EVERYONE. A REAL CELEBRATION of COUNTRY SPORTS & THE RURAL WAY of LIFE to showcase our sports.

2. When we were planning the event most of the ground had been let and some was in crop so the field that would have been ideal for Terriers. Lurchers & Whippets ( including racing) has had to be allocated as one of the car parks primarily for gundogs and TLW. However we did want to show off ALL COUNTRY SPORTS and that is why the MAIN ARENA on SATURDAY MORNING has effectively been given over to Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets and Ferrets and we have put up good prizes for these end of season championships. ASSUMING ALL GOES WELL - normal service will be resumed in 2015. AND THE MAIN ARENA also boasts some pretty special acts - the programme will be available to download from the web site www.ballynahinchharvestfestival.com from Monday.

3. While we have lots of entertainment for kids including JOUSTING, Viking Longship; Battle of Ballynahinch encampment and re-enactment; Rabbits etc we do not have the normal bouncy castles etc BUT we have hired in a huge CAROUSEL ( takes 60) to give kids FREE rides for the two days and of course there are the normal have a go activities such as archery and air rifle shooting and angling instruction,

4. The Clay Shoot is open to all and has fantastic prizes including THREE GUNS TO BE WON!

5. Gundogs are largely pre qualified but there is also , on Sunday, a 'have a go' scurry.

6. We have excellent displays of guns, tackle, quality country clothing and other trade stands.

Looking forward to all the events

Will there be any parking specifically delegated for those with dogs entered in the whippet/ terrier/ lurcher/ puppy championships?

We have several dogs qualified in 3 of the different events, as I am sure others may have. if it is a warm day and parking is too far away from the main arena I am just wondering how the exhibtors will manage?

Would I be correct in assuming The Champion of Champion Pups will be judged by their respective judges in the same order as the adults are listed in the programme of events - ie. Terrier Pups followed by Lurcher Pups followed by Whippet Pups ? Before the 3 judges then choose the overall champion pup?

Also do those entered need to register at the Game Fair H.Q on arrival at the game fair ?

The DWTC Traditional Dog Show Sunday 25thMay 2025
As the showing season has now took off for 2025 and the work in the field complete, it was nice to be able to make our annual trip to the DWTC traditional dog show on Sunday  25th May  in Gilford.  The weather  was not kind to us, with a light wind and several heavy showers in between  classes. This did not dampen the spirits of the show goers who came out to support this now popular annual show. The venue was superb, and the crowd was big.
Our shows are all great meeting places in the summer season for genuine Terrier, Lurcher, Whippet and Strong dog men and women to come together for a bit of craic  and a chat, and maybe go home with a trophy or two. And that is exactly what happened at the DWTC show on Sunday.
It was nice to see so many families, their children and dogs all out on enjoying a day out at the sport we love. Our passion is showing with our Canine friends in the summer and back to the field with them in the winter.
As show time was about to start, first on the menu and first in the ring was the childrens handling class. And boy did these little folk show their dogs. There were 24 very excited we people in the ring and everyone with their very special friend. You were all winners on the day and all went home with bags of lovely goodies to munch on. Well done to all.
The show commenced at approximately 1.00pm.
*Here are the Overall Showing Results

Congratulations to the winners and all the children in the ring on Sunday.

And Finally, the day would not be complete without thanking the Judges.
      Childrens Handling Class

      Whippets / Jim Forrester
      Lurchers/ Jim Forrester
      Terriers/  Raymond Crilly
      Strong Dogs/ Eddie Shaw
And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes Tom and Leanne Barry, Ethan, Morgan, and your back up team Gary Mitchell and Thomas Coleman, you are all simply the best. Your show was run with impeccable organisation and everything ran without a hitch.
It was very evident a lot of preparation and hard work went on behind the scenes to make this show a success this year again and was a most enjoyable day for everyone.
Tom and Leanne, a brilliant day was had by all despite the rain. The window for Country Sports is in our blood and hopefully we will meet again at your show in 2026 for more of the same.
