tomshep 41
Just looking to hear people's views on this. I have a little whippet he is a great dog, don,t get me wrong it,s no record breaker but is great fun to work and does me proud. I now have more ground and time to work my dog and would like to get another in the future. The question I have is that I work as a shepherd for a large farming business and run 4 welsh sheepdogs for work, these dogs work bloody hard for me and never give me any real trouble with injury s . I am shore they would make a great cross for a running dog and I have seen some nice crosses on here. But just not shore what to cross with was thinking about a whippetxgrey or just a straight grey.many thanks for any help cheers Tom Quote Link to post

tomshep 41
As they are welsh sheepdogs and not just a normal collie I am a bit worried they would be a bit to big for a whippet and put to much of a stamp on the pups, but I see what you mean wi11ow Quote Link to post

Maximus Ferret 2,063
If ones of your welsh sheepdogs is a bitch why don't you put a good greyhound over her. Max hardcore on here has one and would know of others. Quote Link to post

Dewclaw69 484
i'd go for a greyhound cross. i'm taking it that you'll be bringing a bitch in and using a collie as a stud. cant imagine the farmer being too happy about one of his working dogs whelping lurcher pups bit of a long term plan though. you'll end up with a bitch you didn't want and a litter of pups to get rid of and you still have to bring your pup on. you might have trouble finding a bitch worth breeding from. if i were in your shoes i'd be looking at finding a pup from a collie grey mating that someone else had bred. have a look at hancock's website. at least you can make a decision on the amount of running dog in the mix and a hancock dog would offer no less than what you're intending but with a lot less hassle for you. 1 Quote Link to post

tomshep 41
Thanks for the replies I can see what you mean about it being a lot easier to buy a pup but I know my dogs and how they work and just think they would make a good mix for a running dog as I know they are well put together 2 Quote Link to post
