Shifts

Recommended Posts

At work we work three ten hour night shift and when we finish at seven am on the fourth day we start back at two pm and do three back shifts from two till nine pm then we do three earlies seven am till two pm Now I liked the shift the first back shift done a few beers and you where pissed it was a cheap night as you where so tired then the other back sifts you could do something in the morning till lunch time and in the evening with a nine pm finish , and on early you had all afternoon after two pm to do what you wanted .

But works done a survey and that shift patterns the worst out the lot and can knock ten years off your live and affect your sleep pattern .

So as of October I'm going on to twelve hour shifts four on four off , I don't fancy the longer shifts but one guy who left after getting a Monday to Friday day shift job said it took five years for his sleep pattern to return to normal ?

Anybody do anything the same ??.

Afraid I can relate to that. I did 35 years of 'all over the place' shifts, and I retired 7 years ago. My body clock is still f**ked. No matter what time I go to bed, I wake up anywhere from 0230 onwards, normally about 0330-0400. Being retired it doesn't matter that much I suppose. Only time I sleep till about 0600 is if I don't get in from hunting 'til about 0100..

Just finished my 12 hour night shift and laying in bed trying to wind down, i hate it been doing 4 on 4 off nights for the past 15 years

On my nights off I can't sleep and have to take sleeping pills, on my nights at work trying to sleep in the day is a nightmare!! My body clock is all over the place

My first and second nights at work I get really bad stomach ache and the sh*ts, third night I feel run down and tired and on my fourth I am just starting to feel better then it's my four nights off..... My body just can't seem to get the hang of it

There is no day shift where I work it's all nights so it's a case of put up and shut up!

Working 12 hour nights isn't for everyone!!

I do 14 hours Friday and Saturday night then 12 hours Sunday and Monday night every week. It used to be 15 hours every night and I have a 45 minute drive each end. I used to be shagged all week. I'm a bit better now with the fewer hours but it still takes a couple of days to get back to normal then ur back in work again. Totally messes you up. I read that night shifts are bad for your health and can give heart problems

I was the same with bad stomach probs , Ive always had sensitive gut even now , one day solid next loose get fed up with it. I worked at Goodyear - tyre/builder for 15 months 3 shifts =mornings, 7-2 afternoons 2-10 ,nights 10-7 , morning no prob just bit tired , afternoons ok but you always got your mind on the clock what ever you were doing or going, nights was ok suppose , but 3am -4.30am for some reason used get very tired at that time, then feck me 6 .30am was full awake. get home 7.30 am cup of tea then tried to go to sleep no way, tried 1pm - 6.30pm to go to sleep bit better , but as said my gut were bad so in the end packed it up got day job, lost money but gut bit better only just though , my wife said your guts were like that 30 years ago when we got married , think she was missing the money lol, but she was right, my old man had sensitive gut as well must be genetic thing .?
