97 Tech Issue

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I've come across a worry, problem, issue, whatever it might be with my 97kt. It's currently a v-Mach 97, originally a kt, but now has the wooden 'k' sported stock. The v-Mach spring etc was installed by myself to what I thought was good effect. My 98 was done the same way and that performs flawlessly. The only difference is I didn't install the tin cover around the spring on my 98 but did on my 97. It's not called a tin cover, I'm not sure on the actual name, but it's comes with the v-Mach kit. Everyone with them will know what I mean.

Anyway. On the last part of the cocking action, literally the last part, there's a loud and noticeable 'crunch' as I pull down on the cocking lever to engage the trigger and safety catch. This has only just started. I've stripped the rifle back to the action and trigger parts and can't see any issues that might cause this sound, such as slightly damaged metal or bits if the trigger. There doesn't seem to be anything rubbing or catching on anything. I've cocked the action without the stock a few times and again, nothing on the 'outside without the wood' of the action that is the issue. It does come from the inside, but only the hook of the piston and trigger parts come come into contact on this last part of the cocking action that can cause this?

It's like a have to force it towards the end to engage the safety catch and trigger mechanisms of which the crunch sounds is audible. Everything until that part is smooth, real smooth.

Unfortunately I don't know the finer details and workings of the rekord unit, but again, when that's out of the action as a stand alone part, it works smoothly and very well.

Any help would be muchly appreciated

The tin thing is the piston sleave mate I'd put it in as it stops twang considerably it absorbs the vibration between the spring and piston.

It's a odd one that I had a g graunch on the 99s turned out to be the piston sleave had caught up but obviously it's not that.

Could some crap of got into trigger mech out hunting?

Could be the spring rubbing on piston as it compresses at cocking point ?

Did you grease the cocking shoe?

Only thing I can think is some crap on comp tube or cylinder

Sorted. It was the stock lug being far to tight and this created a slight bend in the bear trap rail near the trigger unit, which when forced crunched into place creating the anti bear guard function with the trigger. A few shots and it's smooth again, slight clunk sound. Thankful to the help chaps.
