How do you place your traps?

Do you totally back fill the traps with soil? cover with vegetation and leave empty or a little soil in the middle?

Cant say I really use them, but keep see them being mentioned, so better ask

I am no expert lol, but do get few with them , i 1/2 fill the run , so either entrance its got dig to break through and bang got him .

I’ve been building a little wall of mud under the trigger plate, then balancing a couple of slabs cut from the bottom of the turfs on top of the jaws to replace the roof of the tunnel and then filling the hole in.

It works well, but if other people are just filling the run with soil and still catching I could probably save myself a lot of time.

It was interesting, reading that thread, steven58 is no longer with us, he passed away this year. I always found him a gent, with a great thirst for knowledge. If he did not know something, or thought that your way was better than his, he wanted to know. No bravado I know it all, type of posts off Steve. A true gent.

RIP Steve.

Sorry for spoiling your thread.

Thanks mr muddy, So do you cut out the size with a knife?

For tunnels I use a 6" border spade, and if too big a hole, can always fill in the edges, but thats not the same for these is it, need to be tight so mr mole does not "spook"

Any other suggestions

I usually use a bricklayer’s trowel, which I stick on the grinding wheel before I go out moleing – generally stays sharp till after lunch.

For larger jobs I’ve got a JB gardener’s apprentice spade - the sort of thing posh people buy for their grandkids - that goes on the grinding wheel as well. Bloody good quality; had it for years, still look like new.
