Hi Guys,

Just looking for a bit of advice, looking to get my first working dog but i am looking for something to use on the lamp but also small enough to keep in the house as I haven’t got space for a kennel. I have been looking at Whippets but i have heard off some people that their skin is thin and its dangerous then jumping over barbed wire etc. as they will need stitched up if they catch a little. Also is the any difference between getting a bitch or a dog. I have read that dogs are not as obedient as bitches.

Cheers

A whippet would do you fine, it's what you put in to them, that gets you the end result.

Couple of fellas on here doing great with there whippets, it's just getting the right one for your needs, if it's JUST RABBITS go for the smaller size, if you want to run the odd long ear go for one about 23".

Good luck and take your time getting the right one, and you won't be disappointed.

The Whippets skin is their major downfall for me. Their skin is TOO thin in my opinon.

That being said, mine handle barbed wire no problem, I have had them torn open now and again, but that comes with the game!

If your looking for a house dog/hunting partner I would say you'd be happy with a Whippet, or maybe Whippet cross.

They are fun dogs to own and work, I wouldn't trade mine for the world.

I like bitches better than dogs on the usual, but as of right now my favorite is a dog.. Each dog can be different!

Dangerous for any dog jumping barbed wire pal they will all rip

my old saluki greyhound could jump anything, never caught himself on barbs, but it does have its pros and cons, if your permission or land has a lot of chained fences it's handy but it doesn't take 10 seconds to lift a dog over a fence

what do you do run alongside the dog as its on quarry then give it a quick heave ho over the fence for it to carry on
