Recommended Posts

Before I get hammerd for saying somthing daft I do not know anything about the law regarding cattys so here goes I was shooting a couple cans at the end of the garden againsed the shed not doing any harm just the daily target practice that I've done for months but today I hit the shed a couple times running and the nabour came running out shouting who's fireing a gun I poked my head over the fence and said no gun I'm just shooting a few cans with me catty response was oh ok with a bewilderd look think she thought someone was shooting her cats I get on with her but thought if she rang old bill am I in the wrong on private property with a shed and a 40 ft factory brick wall as a backstop so it's safe any ideas where I'd stand if I got the tap tap from old bill I know it won't b much but am I breaking the law ?

If your in your own garden they can't do anything. No laws on owning a catty

Yes I know but a catty has a whole lot more power than say an air pistol that comes under laws that say no shooting within so many feet/ meters of a public highway didn't know if it was the same with a slingshot

The law for guns doesn't apply to a catty because it isn't a gun. Police will probably make a law up. I had mine taken for it being an offensive weapon in public, but your garden isn't public so shouldn't be a problem. If she didn't phone the police then don't worry. Be more careful lol

I wasn't saying the airgun laws apply to cattys mate, they obviously don't being gun laws, what i meant was, the law regarding cattys is very similar to airgun law, if you keep within airgun law when using a catty you wont be doing anything illegal. A grey area i honestly don't know the answer to is carrying a catty in public, if you had been carrying your catty in a "securely fastened case" like an airgun when the coppers stopped you would that have been legal? i would have thought so? Coppers can't just "make a law up" on anything, they know the law, if they make one up the CPS wont go ahead with a prosecution, how can you be prosecuted under a non existant law? The fact is most of us don't know the laws well enough, if the copper says "im confiscating your catty as an offensive weapon" we just go along with it rather than risk a court appearance and getting deeper in the shite.

Iv'e done the same myself mate, not worth the hassle, i know one lad that got caught lamping and they searched his motor, found a catty in his glove box and charged him with "offensive weapon" on top of everything else, don't remember what he got for it though?
