johnny boy68 11,726
Took the lad for his first real fishing session yesterday, got him set up on the 4m whip to start just to get him used to striking, within no time he was catching well. Though he was only catching little fish it was good practise for him picking up fish on mostly every drop, within no time he was baiting up himself and unhooking fish himself. So after a hour on the whip I put him on the rod on a waggler and tbh he took to it great and even caught a couple of small carp, he's got the bug already and is already asking to go again, so its happy days. 19 Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Going by the title, I thought your lad had written it. Great to see mate. Looks like he enjoyed it. Always good to hear them ask to go again. What is that fish in the 2nd to last pic? Is that one of those F1s? Quote Link to post

Fair play he really enjoyed it, he had a few tangles and got caught in the reeds now and then but thats par for the course I suppose. Quote Link to post

chrismdd 787
Excellent time together out fishing, you can't beat it. Mind you today I was fishing a club match with my boy sat next to me and I must admit at one stage he was whittering on so much that I slipped a dog biscuit into my left ear for a bit of peace and quiet. 1 Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
What a great way to spend a day, get the lad a fly rod next year Funny enough he's asking to go fishing for fish he can eat so a bit of trout fishing is in order. Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
We catch a lot of trout whilst trotting maggots, it helps the younger club members get a bit of confidence before trying a fly rod, some really good videos online made by orvis that deal with introducing youngsters to the fly fishng game. Should have a look for them, nice fresh trout for tea, what beats it We got a nice little river by us that holds some good brownies, I've fished it for years freelining worms and suchlike but its hard work to fly fish it especially for a novice, got a few stock ponds by us though I'll try him on one of them I expect. jonah. 775
Some of the best and strongest memories of time with my old man was fishing a little pond for roach and perch about the same age as your lad is... I also clearly remember the farmer that tried to kick us off once being told go forth and multiply, shortly before me dad gave the jacks the "get on" to his nippy collies that were getting lairy... Really important to get them a catch 1st time out I think, looks like you nailed that one me lad! 3 Quote Link to post
