bobh 27
So today was the first ever day out for me and the ferrets, well I say first for me but I did used to go out with me mate and his dad when I was at school but that as back in 1981! So I think I'm classed as a newby. Definitely the ferrets first time out as they're both youngsters. I'd checked out a few small burrows during the week to give all of us an easy start to the season, met up with henry at the first place, a walled garden with plenty of bunnys about, netted up and put the hob down with great expectations. Spent 1 1/2 hours in that garden without a single bolt, not a sign of anything. Picked up and went back to the car, turned back to the garden to see 2 rabbits emerge from the vegetation I the bottom corner of the garden! Same story at the next stop, lots of holes, lots of bunnies up top but all in the undergrowth. Farmer came along and said try the fields round his house so off we went and netted up the first one. Put the Jill down and had our first result in minutes, one to us? Nothing else in that field but plenty of sign so we headed to the back field and it was alive with rabbits, netted a small set of holes that I had seen several popping down. Dropped the Jill down and waited, and waited, then lots of thumping and 2 bolted at once, one in the net, the other went straight on and tried diving down another hole, straight into another net ?? Got one more from these holes before calling it a day. Really enjoyable few hours out, I think we all learnt a lot. 6 Quote Link to post

Even hot days if you are working on a steep bank and the rabbits are running you about it don't take long to work up a sweat. Glad your 1st day turned out alright for you mate may you have many more.
