Kingkongsfinger 5
We've had cows with calves in the field attack the dog and quarry and they ment business the dog got away but the quarry got kicked and gored to shit. The bull didn't even bat an eye at us the cows were in kill mode Quote Link to post
paulus 26
as i have said before i witnessed cows kill an old lady walking her dog on a footpath, be careful when there's calves about, 3/4 of a ton of cow in attack mode is deadly, bullocks are just inquisitive on the whole Quote Link to post

bullmastiff 615
Virtually all the people you here about that get killed by cattle are trying to keep the cattle away from the dog or 'save' the dog from a stampede. The dog's always make it out the field alive, it's the owners who can't run fast enough! 1 Quote Link to post

Surely? best advice is to leave the dogs to it and get yourself safe Yep. I love my dog but I would of been over the fence and to safety. If she couldn't manoeuvre past the herd or didn't have the sense then I would of been digging a hole and shedding a tear. But you gotta keep yourself safe. Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
i break my dogs to cattle as pups, so i know they wont chase them, then i tend to leave them to look after themselves when we come across cattle. had one inquisitive youngster kicked when it went up behind a cow for a sniff, but thats the only time ive had a dog get itself in bother. they learn to look after themselves. as for me, i have worked with cattle and know what they are like, and perhaps thats why i dont worry too much. the thing is, i know that most cattle are not interested or are just nosey. some dairy bulls are a bit fiery especially if they are in with cows, and cows with calves at foot can be horrors, especially when a calf comes trotting towards you out of curiosity, so mum follows it.....i simply make sure i have an escape route, or something to climb onto (tree, farm machinery etc) and make sure i can get to safety quicker than the cow can get to me should the worst come to the worst. in fact, i have never found myself in a dicey situation because i am just a bit careful. but i dont really worry about them Quote Link to post
Dewclaw69 484
bullocks are bad news . they're curious and even if the dog is steady they can un nerve a dog. my permission is full of em and i give em a wide berth Quote Link to post
