gnasher16 30,121
Personaly,...I feel that,..all things being equal,...the humane, quick and painless death of a single infant ,..an action that would,.. 'hypothetically'....save countless lives,.......realy is a no brainer.... Totally agree i cant believe anyone could possibly think taking 1 life in order to save millions of lives is wrong............in this instance we,re talking about Hitler, but what if we was talking about a prolific paedophile who raped and killed 100 children.........................let him grow up and see how it plays out ? ....unbelievable !!!...or maybe ive read the question wrong Edited September 3, 2014 by gnasher16

gnipper 6,484
I would have to leave the baby alive in that situation, If he hadn't lived someone even worse could have filled his role in history.

WILF 46,967
I would say in my opinion that there is an awnser to the question (and yes I understand that it's a psychiatric assessment with no right or wrong) but to me, no outcome in life is ever certain so the question is in itself illogical. The logical way to view it is, there is no harm in the situation at the time (quiet the opposite in fact) so you have to make the right choice now and if said infant turned into a nutter down the line, then you have to make the right choice then. You have to constantly re-evaluate every given thing in life, that's the reality. Anything less than that makes you no better than the beasts IMHO Edited September 3, 2014 by WILF

bobcullen79 1,495
Im answering impulsively, because still at 35, thats how I tick. If I believed all was true and I was doing it for the greater good, I would kill the baby.

Lab 10,979
"You are placed in a room with a baby and you are told told categorically with no doubt that the baby is going to grow up and become adult hitler ... When you leave the room is the baby dead or alive ??? ........." "I don't know I've left the room!!"
Brewman 1,192
The baby is alive when you leave the room, the answer is in the question. "You are told categorically without a doubt that the baby will grow up to be Hitler" So if with out a doubt that he WILL grow up to be Hitler the baby has to be alive when you leave the room. Nowhere does it say that he baby will be Hitler if you don't kill him. The question's purpose is to see how we read and evaluate information. It isn't a what would you do moral dilemma question just a simple one with possible horrible decision making sublimely inserted to test ways of thinking. Socks has had us all on the run with this one.
gnasher16 30,121
and if said infant turned into a nutter down the line, then you have to make the right choice then. Thought i was going nuts so i re-read the question a few times.....and at no point does it mention the word " if "...........the kid IS going to turn into a nutter....illogical as that is,but thats the whole point of the question surely.
