How Messy Hair And Mucky Carpets Will Save Us ...........

Recommended Posts

So far they want to stop us carrying our shopping home in bags. They've given us light bulbs that don't light anything up, and 'may contain nuts' warnings on packets of nuts.

Now the EU has unveiled it's latest far-reaching measures to combat climate change......................(cue drum roll)

From Monday, high-powered vacuum cleaners will be banned, to prevent us all being plummeted back into the dark ages. The wise men of Brussels are also discussing banning high-powered hair dryers in the near future, to prevent entire continents being flooded (or frozen or turned to desert - wish they'd make their minds up !).

Kettles and toasters could also be power-restricted in the future, in an effort to avert the impending apocalypse.

So, if you're sitting there, the other half's having a bad hair day, your carpets are filthy and you've got lukewarm tea and lightly warmed bread for breakfast, look on the bright side - you're helping to save the planet. Mother Earth will survive for longer, which means you'll have more time to stand around waiting for the kettle to boil and your hair to dry...................

So, let's summarize - the weather is hotter than normal, the sun is shining and it takes along time to get dark. 'Must be global warming !' say the experts.

Fast forward to December, and the weather is cold. It's snowing and the days are very short. It can't be global warming, the experts tell us, because it's cold ! It must be climate change !

Is it just me, or could it be a little thing called 'the seasons' .................. ?

The climate is changing! But then it's always changed and changed without our high powered hoovers! We are told when it's hot that it's the hottest summer in 40,50,60 years. So that means it's been this hot before? And I'm pretty sure our grandparents didn't have a dyson or a fuel guzzling car! Personally I think our contribution to climate change is minuscule!

Yes, they're telling us for a few years now that we produce too much beef hence too much methane.

BUT, it's well known in North America in the early 19th century there were herds of large game numbering 100s of 1000,000s.

They used to say it would take 4 days on a good horse to ride bye one herd of Bison.

But then again global warming hadn't been invented yet.

Are you suggesting that we are not experiencing global warming and climate change?

Stupid meddling pricks, dont they realise it take you longer to hoover a floor with a lower powered vacuum cleaner? You'll use exactly the same amount of electric or more.. I pay for my electric, I'll use it any way I damn well see fit..

I'm saying it's warm in the summer and cold in the winter, as it has always been. We've just had the wettest August in 7 years, which tells me we've had 6 intervening August that weren't terribly wet !

I know that most of the 'evidence' for global warming came from the University of East Anglia, and has recently been utterly discredited, so I suppose I'll have to go in the 'don't know' column - at least for now !

I'm no academic, but I'll tell you a few things I do know, ..................

China (population 1.3 billion) is building dozens of coal-fired power stations to supply their 16% of the world's population. They are not signatories to any international pollution reduction treaties and their developments are not subject to international regulation.

India (population 1.2 billion) also facing supplying a massive and growing population's energy demands. Indian pollution regulations are negligible and laws are not routinely enforced.

Brazil (203 million), Pakistan (188 million), Nigeria (178 million) and Bangladesh (155 million) - all burgeoning economies, albeit at the poorer end of the spectrum. But all have growing populations, demanding a more 'Western' lifestyle. This means generating more and more energy, with little or no regard for pollution control and reduction.

The USA is the world's largest polluter, but has still not agreed the Kyoto treaty, while in Europe, piecemeal laws are passed by politicians who fly first-class to and from their Brussels offices, and are ferried on even the shortest journeys in chauffeur-driven limousines.

Add to the mix the fact that 30 million acres of rain forest are cleared annually, and forcing me to recycle my Marmite jars and paying 5p for a carrier bag seems a bit like trying to clear up after an earthquake with a dustpan and brush !

That's what I'm suggesting.............................

*BUMP* (disguised with a relevant joke...................)

Once I worked in a supermarket for a few months.

As I was scanning a chap's goods I said "Would you like a bag for these?"

He replied "Only if it degrades !"

So I picked up a marker pen and wrote on it 'The man carrying this bag is a useless, smelly hippy twat !'

:D
