Horse Meat

Recommended Posts

A few independent butchers stocked more adventourous wares at one time, crocodile, emu, kangaroo etc,the supermarkets have an habit of closing them down, emu,s tough and not worth its price,i bred a few and wanted to knack a youngster to sample its youthful flesh, the curator forbid me as it was destined for another zoo,the fecking turkeys that were supposed to be in a breeding and conservation programme fared far worse than their Australian cousins, luvverly.

Very tasty cut of meat that's best fried with rock-salt & rosemary served up Medium-Rare with a light salad garnish and olive oil dressing and squeezed lemon.

Yum yum

Christ! I read that in the voice of Hannibal Lector

Haha If it's not a very dark shade of Pink its way over cooked!

I must admit that if I could pick guests from fiction for a Dinner Party he'd be up their at the top!

Although I'd be less inclined to attend if he was the Host...................

yeah i remember those exotic meats, tried zebra (nice) ostrich (ok) crocodile (rank) and kudu (delicious).

horse meat is actually very nice. not as good as goat though

Where did you try all that by the way? There used to be somewhere near me that did an African mixed grill like that, have to say I wasn't impressed by kudu!

a mate in suffolk used to get it for me from one of the butchers down his way, cant remember where exactly but he used to live in lowestoft.

as for the goat, its very popular in west indian cooking so see if there is a west indian shop near you. we used to castrate the billy kids on the smallholding, then put in the freezer at a few months old. very tasty!

I done curried goat a while back. Got the goat from a farm shop up the road. They guy had no goat meat, only kid meat and was near in tears when I told him what I had planned for the meat. He told me I was wasting it and wanted adult goat (which is what I wanted) but didnt have any fresh. I didnt go much on it to be honest.

I tried to buy horse meat from a market in southern france, but i was always too late and it had sold out. It looked like venison from where i saw it,lovely deep colour and no visible fat. Only trouble is i dont really like venison. I would still love to try some though..
