ollieegg1 0
Hi In my local gun shop they currently have two air rifles in my price range, i'm a beginner so didn't want anything too expensive. The xs78 is in .177 whilst the qb78 is in. 22. What would be best for target shooting and the occasional rabbit hunting, i want something that is versatile. Cheers. Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
The best SMK for hunting are the heavy ones so you can beat the rabbit to death.. please dont shoot at a rabbit with an smk mate... Unless its MY SMK 97 or 100 3 Quote Link to post
ollieegg1 0
Okay Thanks but i've read that you need a 7ft lb to make a clean shot on a rabbit and the two im looking at put out roughly 9.5ft lb, so why would it be bad to shoot a rabbit? Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
whats your price range? Quote Link to post
ollieegg1 0
Roughly anything lower than 155? Quote Link to post
ollieegg1 0
It puts out 9 ft lbs, and around 150, sorry if this sends twice, my messages have to be monitered because im new and i dont know if its working Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
The smk are not reknowned for their accuracy mate.. and that is the most important bit. If you can hit the brain EVERYTIME then you will just injure and wound the rabbits and could get done for causing animal suffering Quote Link to post
mattybugeye 884
Get something of a bit of quality 2nd hand even a little hw35 will be better than a Smk all day long keep your eyes peeled for a cheap 2nd beauty mate will last you years and bag plenty of bunnies 3 Quote Link to post

ollieegg1 0
Okay Thanks everyone, what about a remington express? are they any better and do i need a fac for one of them? Quote Link to post
Cedric 132
olliegg1 - you need to do a bit of research about different types of rifles. have a look on the web for any reviews and write-ups. A Remington Express purchased in this country will be below the legal limit and requires no licence. Quote Link to post
bigmac 97kt 13,795
Buy cheep ,buy twice and wast your money the first time round . Some smk,s are ok but have to be tuned polished and set up and this will cost ? The money you have spent ie,£155 then the cost of tuning and a polish say the least £30 thats £185 and it still may not be accurate ,save your cash up mate and only buy once. If you can as when you buy one of the best you then want the rest of the best to go with it :clapper: atvbmac 1 Quote Link to post

silentshot1 206
We all have budgets and financial constraints of one type or another, unless you have a spare £10 million dotting around the place, but that doesn't mean you should just buy the first gun with a pretty muzzle break if you are serious about hunting. You wouldn't try climbing a mountain with crampons 'that would do' or try parachuting with a cheapy parachute that was a knock off of a better quality brand, you'd wait until you had the money for the right equipment and so it is with hunting with an airgun, if you are committing to end a life through hunting then you need to know that injury id the least likely outcome. If you have £155, max, you are going to struggle to find a brand new gun that is up to the task with, I'm guessing, your newness to the sport. I would recommend you either take Mattybugeye's advise and buy the HW57 or save another £100 for something better, giving you time to research. good luck with it! 1 Quote Link to post
Chr15j 59
Remington express is a rebranded smk I am told so avoid Quote Link to post
