yorkshire 151
Religion seems to be the flavour of the moment , I was just wondering how many have read it (bible) ? I read it a few years ago and I'm by no means religious nor did it make me .

Brigzy 1,298
I've read it many times, simply to try and make sense of it ! There are more anomalies than I can quote, but heres a few; Why spend paragraphs on Josephs genealogy when he isn't Jesus's father, just so they can show a link to David and Soloman ? Why do the gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke and John disagree on so many tennents that are so fundemental to christian dogma ? If any one can shed any light on Revelations, please help me, as, as far as I can see, even christian theologians have profoundly differing interpretations. Why did the vengefull, hatefull god of the Old Testament, (remember him tormenting good men like Job, or Lot), who demanded an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth; suddenly, in the New Testament, become the god of love who said we should turn the other cheek ? The bible is a collection of writings that have been cherry picked for millenia, some were accepted by the "powers that be" , others were considered apochraphal and suppressed. So the bible you read today, isn't the bible that was wrote down in the beginning.

Blackbriar 8,569
I went to Sunday School as a lad - but only because you had to go to be in the Boy's Brigade ! Now I'm old enough decide for myself, I'm an atheist - I believe that God does not exist, therefore the Bible is irrelevant to me.................. I'm sure BigBri, and others, will tell me I'll burn in Hell, but I'll take my chances.

I was in the "Church Lads Brigade", and remember sunday school, but also the bullying priests, but luckily got out of it before to much damage was done, to my mind, not my body,by the way ! We had a lay preacher, rather than a 'proper' priest - so, you didn't have that Chinese priest Rev. Po Kum Yung, then ?
