Prime hunting age??

Recommended Posts

What age did you consider yourself to be in your prime? In terms of dedication, amount of time spent out in the field and success rate etc. :toast:. My old man reckons about 22-30.What are your best memories of good hunts or good dogs? Any old pics, stories etc. appreciated.

Maybe your body would be in its prime in the earlier years but I personally think that it the experience you have and learn from that will serve you the best and they happen over time so age really does not matter in my opinion so Jigsaw there is hope for you still :whistling::toast::whistling:

From my late teens till early 30's. I was out nearly everyday, with dogs ect. I use to have some great dogs back then and am striving for that now. It seems harder these days, as their is so much bad breeding out their. Luckyly, over here, their is still some good gogs left, due to hard culling.

Their is also, it seems, a better breed of running dog, over their in the Uk, as i have seen on DVd ect.

Keep at it lads, you know who you are.

But, i must say, we over here, bring out the best greyhounds, thats for sure.

My mid 20's, I was out most days doing one thing or another, be it shooting, fishing, dogs, snaring and the like.

Work and family limits things, I have less time now. But I get out 1 to 2 days a week and that has to suffice.

With age comes experience...........it just depends, some people i know have been hunting years and don't know shit, others less and know more.........

so prime hunting age is anything 15 to 65 it depends on the person.................

i had my best hunts when i was 17 and passed the test and got my first car... i had my independance and could travel further a field.... i remember some of the dogs i had back then too, perhaps they were'nt the best but i can recall some cracking nights on the lamp with my whippet/grey cindy (r.i.p) and some blinding days digging with my old terrier gypsy R.I.P... i think when i got my car every night out was an adventure on new ground and every run was savoured... now i feel that my dogs are'nt as good and the nights are less action packed due to the arrival of so many new dog and gun men to the game in my area :( ... havent been out in ages and this season will see me bringin on a grand daughter of my old lurcher... also a new russell bitch that seems keen so far...

i recall nights that i could have stayed out till the battery died and walked for maybe 10 miles and even got up next morning to go for a handy dig if i knew of an earth... now i'm f****d after a few hours lamping and have to sleep for ages before i can go again...
