J Darcy 5,871
I have been asked to put this topic on by DH as it is too late for the september mag. Hi there,A quick query from Ireland.Would any of your readers have any tips & advice on catching two dumped lurchers running free in some waste ground, it's hard to find info I on the web and I thought your Magazine readers could help? We have contacted various charities but these dogs are so fast and very nervous. We are at our wits end. The charities have given up so we are trying ourselves.Owning only a lab & terrier, we've no experience of this breed. Smec1975@yahoo.com Susan Cruse. Thanks. Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
a few years ago a stray lurcher dug out a den in a large garden and had a litter of pups, I knew the owner of the property, and went to see the dog, but you could not get near her, she would go for you, showing teeth, he called the RSPCA, who threw down some laced meat, which she ate, and they were able to get to her and the pups. the garden owner kept in touch, and told me the dam and pups were all re homed. slip lead 862
Put 10-20mg of Temazepan per dog in a piece of meat, and they will be slow/dozzy enough to catch. Good luck. Edited August 29, 2014 by slip lead Quote Link to post
chook1 184
Most dog wardens and some rescues now have dog traps, they could ask doglost for help to see if they could locate a dog trap in the area, constant feeding by one person ie go down at say 2 oclock and put food out for them, take a book and sit down ignoring the dogs, you can often start to gain the dogs trust this way, once there used to you being there and will eat whilst your around - start chucking bits out to them never make eye contact or call them as it can just make the dogs more nervous, it can take longer trying to gain their trust. Doping a dog often wont work and can cause problems in its self, a nervous loose dog is basically in fight or flight mode, its adrenalin will be through the roof unless its a secure area then chances are it will fight the drug and run, this poses the risk of you loose the doped dog or it causes an accident. She could ask these lot for advise, as there used to catching feral dogs every day. http://feraldog.wordpress.com/2010/06/09/oral-chemical-capture-for-street-dogs/ Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Put a Temazepan in a burger, it will take about 20 minutes to take affect. The dog will be unable to run and will struggle to walk. Just drop and retreat with a pair of binoculars. Job done. Happy Hunting P's before anyone goes of on one, we once had a dog that was prescribed them, by a vet, every firework night. Edited August 29, 2014 by slip lead Quote Link to post
