Remember being shown by older cousin when i was young lad what they looked like and took some up and ate them.would like to show my boys them and try them again.anyone give me some info about them? identification, season's,best place to find and uprooting. Cheers Mike.

Might be the same stuff as what the Normans call "gernotte" - a word which is supposed to stem from Scandinavian roots meaning "earth nut" (Old Norse jǫrð + hnot). I once read a magazine article about it stating the nut had been brought to our shores (I am a Norman myself) by the vikings and was originally found in Norway...

Those are what I knew as ground nuts as a kid in the Cynon valley.

what part is that TC?I'm about 2 miles from Abercynon.

 

Sorry now I seen this. That was in Hirwaun, although I did live in Fernhill and Maple terrace Abercwmboi for a while.
