I will let Max tell you ...I wouldnt say he was a strong type quite the opposite he would of been no more that 60lbs ..he was light on his feet where as the brindle dog would of been near 80lbs I would describe as strong type very differant running styles both good to watch though

One of the cleverest mutts ive witnessed behind an hare was a 3/4 grey/collie,this dog never ran them hard until it knew it had a chance of finishing the job,it had an habit of pulling up when the hare had the advantage,yet accounted for 3,s and 4,s over a 5 year period,the dog had pace to burn,enough wind and the brain to know when to admit defeat,the dog accounted for more than a lot of what may be deemed as better coursing stock,it also took high numbers of conies in the lamp and mullered fox and venison,jumping an hedge at the top of the A1 it met its match with a Volvo estate,fecking Volvo,s.

Heres a pic of the brindle dog at the same stance just to give you an idea of differance in size he was 28" 3/8dh saluki type with a few differant mixes in there bull whippet way back ....not breed for coursing although had some blondie blood amongst others in him and spun a few hares before we were made criminals .

I remember a 3/4 grey/collie grey bitch called shiela up here about 15 years ago that was a decent on hares for our type of ground very up and at them

 

Moyes captain Max ....seen loads of vid footage and it can get a bit boring but Moyes Captain theres a dog I like to watch behind a hare

Sounds a special dog. A lot of coursing men today would boast about shooting it or leaving it in a field for pulling up even though most men would kill for a dog capable of 3's and 4's. Wouldn't bother me because if the dogs as clever as you say it wouldn't be hard to trust that it knew it weren't gonna catch that one. Can you remember anything else about the dog? Its name or who owned it?

Yes maybe not as keen as I was in my 20s when at 3 in the morning you were still saying "just one more field"but can still give a dog enough to do it justice ......Tig is still alive a bit battered n worn and his feet wouldnt last another season as you would expect ... although retired but he doesnt know it yet im not looking forward to his reaction this season seeing the other big dogs getting out hes put out to stud theres a litter on the ground at the moment out of a decent bitch in Leeds he seems to produce decent stuff he will be given an easy life now inside in fron t of the fire this winter ....Ive still got a bitch out of him that has some pace and wind and a youngster out of him that will start when im back that I dont think ive been looking forward to seeing a young dog go than this one .

It's a pity someone couldn't find and post the clip of that Waterloo Hare launching its self into the air and spinning mid air with the greyhounds tearing beneath it

She spun round mid air landing in opposite direction of greyhounds gaining valuable time thus eventually escaping to the applause of the crowd.

Great clip showing the Hare the respect it so deserves.

Its on the This Is Coursing Video I think, narrated by Sir Mark Prescott who got done ,along with Clarissa for attending a coursing meet.

Its a Great watch

They show it in real time then again in slow motion with some apt music backing it up.

That Hare did what it had to to survive and breed on

Speed, Agility, Guile, Intelligence it had everything and hopefully passed these on to its offspring.

Aye hes a choco....should make a few pound of his pups ....before WILF say it .....really got high hopes for this youngster he will not be the all rounder but im sure he will earn his keep ....you and Tomo need to get up soon for some sport
