I haven't seen the reasons WHY the Scots rejected independence by such a big margin, but my guess would be;

1, Currency;

Salmond was insisting up to the end that there would be monetary Union, even though every one else was insisting there wouldn't be ! He had no back up plan, he couldn't tell the people what currency they would use if the rUK wasn't bluffing.

2, Business;

The pound dropped and there was a flight of money out of Scotland and a selling of shares in Scottish based companies when it looked like there might be a "yes" vote. Today the pound rallied three cents on the dolar and shares in RBS, Loyds, Standard Life, etc, have rebounded back to where they were.

3; Defence;

Salmond wanted a purely defence force, which basically would have had difficulty defending Scotlands fishing grounds, oil installations and borders. People were probably happier being defended by one of the best trained, best funded, best equipped militaries in the world. Older generations would remember Scotlands contributions to this military; from Waterloo to The Somme; from El Alamein to Iraq and be worried about splitting .

These are just my views, but the common theme is UNCERTAINTY. I think Salmond was promising the world, but couldn't give any deffinates to allay this uncertaincy and that was his undoing.

Unfortunately a lot of English are sick of hearing how England holds the Scottish back.   This vote has done nothing but fracture the union and Scotland.

I'm absolutely disgusted at the fighting in George square Glasgow yesterday, the whole of Scotland were given a choice and the choice was made, no one is any less a scot for voting no and no one is mo

I cant believe there are all these pages arguing who does this and who said that, at the end of the day either vote yes or no on the 18th, there is absolutely no need for all this hostility over it. J

I fully expect so Lab

We already had Farage saying he`d be demanding his own wee answer to the West Lothian question.

There will be an English nationalist backlash over the whole affair.

A blind man could see it coming mate. Too late now.

They won't do an English parliament,as even an in power labour would never have a majority,they need Scottish mps to get anything through,

They may go for English Thursday or something,for certain issues ,but if we had an issue about English finance or schools etc a Labour government would never hold a majority .

The labour party have already said as much,

So the best you can expect is the equivalent to the old metropolitan authorities,that are run by faceless bureaucrats,getting paid £££ for giving contracts to big companies,in turn for seats on their boards.another layer of pigs with their noses in the trough,

Ironically the Scottish mps Will be able to vote what powers England can have .
