DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
I just got back from looking at a few different .223s in my local gun shop, looked a 3... A second hand Tikka t3, synthetic stock, varmint barrel, and AES sound mod and a trigger job. A few scratches and the odd knock on it. £800. A new Remmington 700, synthetic stock. Didn't like the feel of the stock. £890. And a new Browning A bolt, synthetic stock. Felt ok, Nice trigger. £655. The bolt on all 3 rifles felt a bit slack and clumsy to be honest. The action on my .22lr is much tighter and smoother. Just looking for opinions on what you lot think, shame they didn't have a cz527 for me to look at...I know there is a deal to be had on any of them as they seem priced highly already... charlie caller 3,654
Sounds like the t3 has had a hard life? The Browning would be my choice there, my mate the Seeker has one in .223 and it is a very accurate rifle, with a variety of ammo, not a bad rifle at all 2 Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Browning + Boyds = very good brand new gun for less than the others. 3 Quote Link to post
ianm 2,594
I just got rid of an A bolt because of the trigger, but i am very fussy about triggers. All my c/fires are Tikka T3s lite, varmint and super varmint and have superb triggers with a bit of fettling. The super varmint has a set trigger which is delightfull to use. All my rimfires are cz with fettled triggers. 1 Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
The A bolt in the shop had a lovely trigger out of the box, no creep just a gentle light squeeze and "click". Bang on it was, felt similar to my .22lr having had a trigger job. I dont even know what I want, but I think I need to see a CZ527 before I decide. Be good if I could pick up something second hand that's been looked after. I have just put a wanted advert up for sale section... 2 Quote Link to post
John Stott 202
Browning, no brainer really. Don't have one myself yet but friends report them as fantastic kit. 1 Quote Link to post

I suspect if your friends had Tikkas, Remington, CZ etc., they would all report them as fantastic kit! No I doubt it. We have a collection between us of CZ, Ruger and a Tikka. The Browning is an A Bolt and by far the best performer. When funds allow I am getting myself one. We are an honest bunch and have known each other since army days. The CZ's come out as shining examples for me always but the A Bolt has the edge. Quote Link to post
andyf 144
I've got an A bolt .270, retro fitted fitted a Timney spring myself, top notch. The only funny bit was the box that sent it to me in from USA, 3" x 4" x 8" long, inside was packed with bubble wrap, the spring was sealed in a polyzip bag and was smaller than that in a Biro??
