its the norm for pups to overshoot mate. but if its half lab it will soon cotton on to whats happening. i worked a collie grey X lab bitch and she was a good allrounder

she maybe get better , but if your wanting game get a dog bred for it nothing worse than seeing game out running your dog or she is not agile enough to cope with the tricky rabbit ive saw collie crosses built like her could catch game but not on short wheat mostly rough cover , were the game baulks ,years ago we had collie crosses first crosses ,out of each litter maybe 2 or 3 were decent rest ,were mediocre ,hope your dog comes fine but better getting something suitable
