gnasher16 30,280
its only been since about 98 we have had a top stadium of 60,000.. the one before was only good for one thing, being demolished. since rangers f****d up crowds have droped, Heres the bit i dont get........throughout the 50,s/60,s/70,s/80,s right up to very recent Celtic would get around 60k for the Rangers game....yet would still only AVERAGE 25k over the season.........if the ground was capable of holding 60k every week why didnt it ? The figures suggest the Old Firm game is very well supported but the club itself is not........i fail to see how 25k people in a 60k ground can ever be classed as great crowds ! Seems to me this Massive Celtic thing is all if buts and maybes ! Edited August 29, 2014 by gnasher16
Joe1888 672
looks like one of my previous comments was wrong, i didnt know the old stadium was 60,000.. i was just a young pup lol fan base world wide is said to be 8-10 million ill comment on what i know, attendances droped when the board drove the club into the ground, then mccan took over in 94 http://www.fitbastats.com/celtic/club_records_league_attendance.php https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/pitchside/celtic-only-british-club-top-10-world-football-173049791.html am sure it was 60,000 the other night to watch that pish.. last i heard only 500 tickets were left people in glass houses gnash

Even poking my eyes out wouldn’t stop me from going If that happened, I’d still turn up for the atmosphere. Celtic is more than just a football club it’s a cultural icon. It’s an emblem of the Irish diaspora which is very important to me. My father took me to my first game against Dunfermline in 1962. We won but I don’t know the score. West Ham is everything too you just like Celtic are too me.....I don't go on stats and stuff but you couldn't get a ticket at Parkhead when Martin O Neil was there....I know...I was there. But that was a time when money was getting spent......we were trying to win things. Unlike now where it's take take take with the board with nothing in return. So I don't blame the fans for not turning up....something has to give. And another thing out of the many Celtic fans I know I've never heard them say "we are the best fans in the world"....that's came from great nights at Parkhead and how we condone ourselves away from home.
undisputed 1,664
Gnash your obviously basing your stats from the early years on the "official" attendance, It was a well known fact that Celtic board (Kelly's et al) massaged the attendance for "tax reasons". The whole football culture up here has changed over the last 30yr or so. There used to be pitches everywhere for kids to play on, now they're all locked up at night. The council also have a habit of taking the goal posts away during the summer when the kids are of school and not cutting the grass. Money also a factor for families, and kids that go to training have all their individuality coached out of them. Even kids that do break through and get signed are on funny money and driving flash cars at 17-18yr old. Lots of factors why football is poor up here, but apart from 3/4 teams in the premiership a lot of English football is dross too. God help the EPL if sky ever go tits up.

Its all very well saying you dont go on stats but how could we have this conversation without them anybody could claim anything.....all i was asking was why Scotland doesnt produce top footballers anymore it wasnt a trick question but Scots take these questions to heart and rebound with things like Celtic are the biggest club in the world.....what should we do say yes ok then they are just for a quiet life ! So I don't blame the fans for not turning up....something has to give. And another thing out of the many Celtic fans I know I've never heard them say "we are the best fans in the world"....that's came from great nights at Parkhead and how we condone ourselves away from home. Yes Lab im a football fan......i couldnt give a tuppence for Croatian football,Norwegian football,Scottish football......................but if Croatia and Norway once produced great players that filled the English league id be curious to know why its suddenly stopped..............im not bashing Scottish football you dont need me to tell you its a joke i accept to you Celtic means as much as my club does to me......but i dont sit here claiming to be a massive club,i rant on about the history and tradition of my club because thats all we really have......but do Celtic have anything more ?.....normally i wouldnt get into these debates because its difficult to talk to Scots about Scottish football without them getting all venemous about English football, but the folk commenting on this topic seem a little bit more sensible so why not. I don't have the answers why we aren't producing better footballers. But overall I reckon England are producing less talent at a young age too? I'm not one for stats....they can be swayed to look good or bad. I'm sure I could dig out some stats on West Ham that too you a life long fan would not agree with.? TUFFTY 1,476
If you seriously think celtic are a massive club then you have been dropped on your head as a youngen. SCOTTISH football is shit full stop. Celtic and rangers are not good enough for the championship let alone the premier. The rest of the teams are the conference. Fcuking giants pmsl Gnasher you aint watching that pile of shite are you?
