Celtic.......

Recommended Posts

I watched the first half of Celtic v Maribor last night.......f**k me, how did such a great old club like Celtic get laid so low?

It was like watching a pub team !!

If these are the top of the tree in Scottish football then Scottish football is in some shite state.

When you think back to the teams of Larsson, Sutton, DiCanio, Balde and then see this it really is a shocker to a football fan!!

f***ing shame like

its the times we live in mate, we have to spend within our means, as everyone knows tv rights, money for winning league etc for the scottish game isnt much. am sure the new manager will improve. fans complain about the board no spending money, id rather be debt free than struggling to make ends meet.

Without sounding nasty, theres always a horrible sense of self pity you get listening to Scots talking about the game up there.....almost as if any country the game flourishes in should be commiserating and sympathizing with them......................30 years ago when Scotland were producing great footballers then yes ok id understand that.......but when they dont produce a footballer worth tuppence it tends to show that in todays generation the game is not all that important up there......so if its not important they dont deserve sympathy in my opinion.

clubs need to live within there means, its a fact, theres a few clubs that could be used as an example.. who knows maybe in the long term the scottish game/national team might benefit from that. in the past celtic and rangers were both guilty of spending on over seas players to win the league, those days have gone and now youth gets more of a chance. for a country of 5 million, theres still decent crowds, i wouldnt say its not that important... scottish game wont ever get the big £££ tv deals, sponsership and overseas billionaires to invest because the country is to small.. the epl is only as strong because of overseas players, overseas owners etc etc, not sure how good the english game really is... good solo players, national team of a country 50 plus billion isnt that good.. do you think all the overseas players and money is truly helping the english game/national side? still a good league to watch

Not sure who you've been speaking to but I speak to people about Scottish football every day and I don't hear self pity..., apart from the odd Rangers fan who still feel aggrieved at what's happened to their club over the last couple of years. I can assure you that the last thing people up here want is sympathy from South of the border.

Sure the chat is pretty depressing, Scottish football is at rock bottom and in a worse shape than many people dreamed was possible, but it will come again. We spent two decades creating a financial basket case and I reckon it'll take another decade before Scottish football recovers and finds its own level again.

As for the game being not that important, and I've nothing to back this up with but, I doubt that it's any less important now to kids in Scotland than it is in England...., or Germany, Spain, France, Italy or Holland. The EPL is the probably the most lucrative league in the world yet the national team continues on a downward spiral.. or at the very least regularly under-achieves.

Germany, Spain, France & Italy have all had success in major competitions in recent years, why haven't England? Not having a dig just a genuine question.

If Scottish football still has " morals " regarding money.............and the game is still important ...................what is the reason its not producing decent footballers any more ?

Its very rare to talk to a Scot about Scottish football without them talking about English football which to me suggests yous jump straight on the defensive and must have a big hang up and perhaps jealousy of football in England.......but forget all that England/Scotland shit...... if its possible to just natter about Scottish football im just genuinely curious why the game doesnt seem popular amongst youngsters up there anymore where in every other country its as popular as ever.........particularly at a time financially when home grown talent would be of such importance.

Gnasher, how can you say the game isn't as popular up than it was to youngsters? It is, of course it is man.

I personally think for kids they should get to play competitive games from the of! No playing this pishy no winners or losers crap!!
