Rez 4,961
I've just read mr smk's story. Great shooting as always. Checking zero of my kt on a small perm I have, an old ladies large garden as it happens who got me over last year to sort the rabbits that we're chewing her new fur trees. The garden backs onto a large field that's not been used for years. I use the field to zero my rifles. Anyway, not been for a while and they seem to be everywhere these rabbits. Not that good shooting to be honest, but happy with half inch to an inch groups, I had a scoot round, light grey jumper, sneaks, not really the usual shooting attire as I didn't expect to be stalking game. As usual, when I'll prepared the rabbits are everywhere. I spooked a few around the garden, but two were chasing each other around my zero of 25 yards ish. This one sat still for a few seconds and I squeezed off a shot. It was quite dark again, and so missed judged my range. Something I do have to work on, tips most welcome and found it was nearer 33 yards and the pellet struck the base of the neck, dropping and inch and a half. I picked him up and drove home. 3 Quote Link to post

Rez 4,961
Yes. I saw that Hawke do one... might be a thought... I hate the fact that Im depending on tech to judge distances though. Surely its all part of the sport of hunting to learn how to judge distance correctly, or I actually think it'll be down to experience. 1 Quote Link to post

Surely its all part of the sport of hunting to learn how to judge distance correctly, or I actually think it'll be down to experience. I'm normally pretty good at judging ranges, but at dusk, or in the rain, or when I'm shooting up at a magpie in a tree for example, there's no shame in having some back-up in your pocket. Given the drop that a .22 pellet will have when you push your ranges out, a few feet can make all the difference between a clean kill and a wounded animal, no shame in range-finding in those circumstances either. If all it does is confirm the excellence of your own range-finding skills, it's still a tool worth having in the box. 3 Quote Link to post
