Has She Retired Herself ?

Recommended Posts

my beddy/whippet spent the first 7 years of her life working alongside her mother who we lost last year due to ill health, i now realize she was just following her mother and is nothing like as good. her saving grace is the fact that she works well in the beating line but over the last couple of weeks she refuses to jump out of the van whilst i,m out and about checking the poults etc. when i lift her out she sits there untill i came back to van, has anyone else ever had this happen, cheers plum !

yea you might be right big lurks i am looking for an excuse to get another dog but i,m still baffled why she won,t walk round with me, i will try her on a lead cheers plum !

suppose this is one of the probs with working more than one dog, as in a pack system even with just 2 dogs , I dog will take control, either finding or going in for the 1st strike on a kill.My younger dog very oriented to my older dog,(bonded) he watches him like a hawk on the walks and everything else. But luckily when he sees his quarry day+night he wants it for him self so will hunt solo no prob. But looking back I would have done better with him on his own from day 1, but as I only work him now, it makes no difference really now.!

Using several animals in a pack system Neva gives ya true picture of. The animals abilities, for the life of Cana understand the reason for this other than hound packs etc.if thy lamps with a mate etc that be at least 2animals out more than enough, some try to please there handlers and will go well beyond some animals limits these are the animals I favour the ones that work for there handlers brought on through the great bond they have with thee.seeing the true picture of what's going on in ta field his there for us all ta see but some are blinkered and see the picture differently some animals become lost so to speak with out pack while there be others that drive on. thanks for replys lad, i understand most of them lol ! she worked on her on last ferreting season and also in the beating line last season and as i said it,s only been the last week that she,s changed by the way she will happily walk with me on a lead with me of an evening around the block. i agree that having one dog to spend all your time with is ideal but feel i need a pup to bring on, cheers plum !

If the dog has only just changed then you need to look at possible health issues: trapped nerve, damaged tendons? Not something visible but easy enough to diagnose if you take her to a good greyhound vet or back man. Also possible are changes in behaviour caused by being in season/post season. Or did something frighten her that you aren't aware of? Any number of reasons a dog alters its behaviours suddenly: just because we don't notice why doesn't mean to say its for no reason: there is ALWAYS a reason.

Sounds bored with checking the poults.

Some times my old bitch won't even go for a walk with me if I walk around my plot, she knows every nook and cranny. But if I go to my motor it's a different story.
