Any thoughts on pig manure for the plot ? I have access to some on a hard standing by the road side so i can bag it easy whopping heap going back years. Had a quick google and it all seems doom and gloom about it.

The pigs are kept indoors and fed pellets not sure if they get scraps or not

I ended up by accident with about 3 matbro buckets of mainly pig manure on here last winter. I dug it in anyway. The pig muck was maybe 3 or 4 years old and the ground in the garden had not been grown on for a few years. Plants from the green house grew ok, but betroot and radishes were the only things I could get going from seed, struggled to get the soil fine enough and spring onion seeds failed. Not sure if the manure was good or bad really.

Seems to have been an odd year for germination a few people have had problems on our plots this year. I think I will give it a go on the plot the spuds are going in next year and see what happens

We have just finished a batch of potatoes in work that were fertilised with pig manure. The only way I could fault the potatoes is that the manure burnt the skins. They had burning patches on the skin that looked like common scab. But, I would think that the manure was fresh as he uses it every year to fertilise his potatoes. Older stuff should be fine.
