Blakloks 5
Any advice on what to put up either side of a narrow strip of wood to provide a wind break and warm it up a little Edited August 15, 2014 by Blakloks Quote Link to post
Alimac2 321
Bales? Used that wind break netting on a pen, think it was 60 or % , that worked well but tested the posts... Long term plant canary grass or similar & get & let some light into the strip to get natural ground cover to grow.. Quote Link to post
shovel leaner 7,650
Short term round bales , long term think low level trees , Christmas trees , laurel , snowberry , that sort of thing . Quote Link to post
Rhodey 96
Not the easiest to establish but ive got mascanthus along side on side of my pens really stops the wind and provides cover all year. Quote Link to post
Blakloks 5
I was giving willow a thought aswell Quote Link to post
Guest ragumup
Iv used willows cheap and easy to replant/spread, not as good as bales but ok if planted close 5 inches and double alternate rows. Quote Link to post
shovel leaner 7,650
Willow can be good but does really well on wet ground , I'm guessing that the wood in question might be on high ground if it's showing driven birds , they could take a while to establish , just a thought . Laurel is good and cheap , if you have some on the shoot already or know someone who has some , cuttings can be taken and they establish very easily , but grow quite slowly . If you are in a bit of a hurry I'd go for conifers . Quote Link to post
Blakloks 5
Where's the best place to acquire some young saplings cheap? I will need a fair few of them Quote Link to post
