White light works too, but ruins your night vision so takes time for your eyes to adjust again, red light is the best to maintain your night vision - there is argument over if certain types of animals can see red light or not - green light isn't as good at maintaining your night vision as red light, but seems to be as effective for eye shine and identifying species, i am not convinced it is totally invisible to animals but is no worse than a red light.

Blue light shows up blood trails and i have never used the yellow lens!

rats see in the blue spectrum, so dusk n dawn is thre best time (uv everywhere) but.. they apparently carnt not see red (they can see light intencity,e.g. a laser too bright they can see in any colour)

rabits cows sheep etc see in green and white, the B/W exsplinasion just meas they see two colours 'black and white',,, or green n white lol.

dear are orange blind, as are rabbits, red works to a point, but as always if its too bright they know its there cuz it burns theres eyes quite noticably if you know what i mean.

fox's? they say dogs cant see colours, but theres always another yes that dog can....

IR is pritty invisable at the spot end, but theres always going to be red light sourse at the torch lens, ranging from adding a IR plastic filter (dimmist) to wow! look at the red light 2 mile of over there (as in instantly visable from my car at 70mph round a tight bend...very visable when you see it.)

distance wise per cost, any T-6 cree will do 100 yards with focusing lenses (and the smallest area lit at the rabbit end) to the bike lights with no focusing and using a bezal reflecter that light up halfa feild in the traditional car head lamp and car battery type lamping to about 120-150 meters further for eye shine.

theres a t-6 '2' out now, sposed to be brighter thn the standard t-6 cree.... 20 quid will see you with a diy presure switch and driver to suit your needs, i personaly dont favout the multi click ones, 3 mode, 5 mode etc, some 5 mode (although they usually have 2 flash modes at the end) actually stay on the setting you clicked too as long as you dont stammer the presure switch or click twice in suscesion.

step down the voltage with a pwm regulator for longest run time, e.g. a 12v pack on a step down goes from say an amp draw to 300mah draw, the standard burn off regs (linier i think theyre called) that dont 'pulse' on and off at hi frequencies literally just burn off the exsess and waist it....in whih case its get the volts input to as close to the cree led voltage as pos and rememer to keep control of the amps...the amps burn um out very wuick when theyre too hi.

fiffy notes..hmmm spose by the time youve got a 8-15 quid mounting system, a 15 quid torch, a 3-5 quid driver, couple quid on the presure switch then reworked, spose it depends if you've 50 quid spare... and sorted the batteries, i'm on 26650's by soshine at the mo, 4 actual amps of use in them, but theyre like 11 quid plus each, and of course the charger, eather a cheepo B2 for 12 quid or i use a nitcore thing at 25....

a wprd to the wiser on batteries, if theyre surefire or the blue bland rap equivilents theyre actualy revamped 1 ampers...yeah they work, not very long like lol.

180 luminems actualy sounds like th real #value# lol, 1000luminem claims are usualy made on ebay by shining the light at a meter at white wall..i suspect tunnels in tight by side walls too lmao! its not the proper way to measure the lum's.

hmm fiffy quid....if the battery charger and cells were good uns i'd say yeh, if you actualy like moding kit i'd say no...

edit, i have a fenix tactical light, cost 55 quid on sale at the time, 200 lum's and yes it actualy does 200 meters, i also got a ledray thing head torch dimable and focusable, the HR7 for rechargeables, now whilste the finish on the metals etc feal a lot better than the cheepies, and yes they perform ok....wellll, in hinde site thats nearly hundred quid, i could fashon the same for 30 and buy a nice hobby charger.

i feel like we could have so much more for just a bit less if theyd only get their fingers out and give what we actualy want if you know what i mean. dimable and focusable etc....not the feckin clicky mode creee-ap lolol..who needs morse cod in 5 langauges and on 15 power setting.. so 18 clicks later i went past the one i wanted, threeblinding fucks later..ohhh bunnies have gone, but i do have radio mode on my torch lolol.
