Guest joe ox
If there shooting from the roof of a landrover from the roadside there is only so much damage they could do! If there driving the fields shooting there would be evidence like tracks and game laying around rotting away. This sounds like a tall story to me Quote Link to post
BRAN 0
Your a real know all Joe. This is Ireland not England, the fields are a lot smaller, massive land is few and far between. What's the accuracy on these rifles? 100 -200 yards? The country roads are adjacent the fields, these fields are rarely bigger than two hundred yards Why would this be a tall story? Do I insert doubting replies about your posts? Have a bit of respect Joe, I have no need to tell stories. I found a hare two three rabbits in the four fields I tilled. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Put Eire in your profile Bran, so as folk know where you are from. Your post now makes a lot more sence, knowing ireland, fairly well, i can quite understand how a bunch of cowboys can get away with riding round, shooting off the road, and not get caught. Ireland is so rural, you see few cars, there are little hills everywhere, and i,ll bet you cant see a lamp beam, a quarter of a mile away, because of the hills, hedgerows etc. Not much chance of driving land there either, the hedges are impenetrable, and most dont have gateways, etc, infact, i,ve never seen such an unkempt landscape......but its beautiful for it. BRAN 0
There has been a bunch a cowboys over here shooting off the road and not getting caught for the past 38 years But thank f**k that's all over! No mate, don't mind guys having a shot. Sport is sport, but have a bit of respect! Too many wiping gear out, just in case somebody else gets a hunt at it. I walk smack bang into gamebirds every time I'm out wouldn't dare let a dog touch one. Quote Link to post
Joe 2
This type of thing really anoys me. I shoot, hunt, ferret etc. I think the main problem is like Fathom said is "respect your quarry". Real terrier/Lurchermen respect there quarry, in the way of breeding seasons, only taking a healthy number of vermin and game, and really just looking after the land. I understand there are some shooters out there also think alike, but unfortunately the majority only care about one thing, Game Birds. Any other wildlife doesn't matter in their eyes. Where I live some shooters are out two to three times a week persecuting foxes. Some give and take between nautural wildlife and shoots needs to be taken into respect here. Shooters should be on the same side as hunters, but as I find shoots & hunts are becoming enemies. This is wrong as we both enjoy country life and should stick together to preserve the countryside and our sport. Quote Link to post
holy grail 0
i have been out doing that sort of shooting in the past. but we always made sure that our target was dead, and even [bANNED TEXT] we shot, we identified it. a year ago a mate of mine was out spottyen on his farm, chasing roos off the back of the ute, when he was thrown from the vehicle. he now has permanent brain damage and is in a wheel chair for life. many of us like to believe it wont happen to us, but it sure can. next time, whether you believe they have permission or not, take a note of their number plate. give it to the land owner and theyll soon see whether they had permission or not. also, most landowners would appreciate you doing that sort of thing, it shows your committed and honest. cheers Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
I enjoy shooting, but I only do it on bits where I cant run dogs, ie railways embankments and the side of the motorway, also for shooting birds as you get more with a gun than a dog (obviously) I leave the open bits and fields for the dogs as I enjoy seeing a dog working more firing a gun. I dont have permission but if other people are doing the same bits as me, I try to make an effort to get on there before them and kill as much as possible, the game is better off in my bag than theirs, thats my philosophy Quote Link to post

sounder 9
well lads, there lads here that would shoot stuff in ur front garden, Quote Link to post
Guest Macnas
Sounder's right, there are piss takers in both sports here, shooters and dogmen both. We had such wankers shoot a vixen off the lower half of the acre my homeplace is on, we came out of the house when we heard the shot, which sounded like it was outside the fecking window, and heard the lads laughing before they drove off. Next morning we found the fox. Roadside shooters ruin all our sports in my opinion, never mind it's illegal in the first place to shoot from a public road. Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Are we doing this particular thread every week then? Reason I ask is so I can compose a general response which I can just cut'n'paste each time, lifes too short to keep at this Quote Link to post
