A cardboard box? We lived in a paper bag at the side of the motorway....had to get up every night before we went to bed and lick the white lines clean....then us parents would beat us half to death.......if we were lucky....

ah those where the days , we were happy even though we were poor . Kids nowadays wouldn't believe us if we told them how hard we had it

I was 15 before I found out a duvet didn't have pockets and sleeves

When I was a kid it was home from school dinner changed then me and the mates would head off out up the pit with either my staff or the mates jack russell , a lighter and a pen knife . Climb a few trees carve our names then smoke a few strands of white grass or straw lol carry dumped tyres up the bing an race them down . Your lucky if kids get to kick a ball out the front street these days .

When we was kids the countryside activities some of you chaps talk about wasnt really an option but still we was never indoors......up to no good most of the time but the idea of sitting around playing computer games or watching telly no way that wasnt for me....we just had so much more energy and inquisitive natures than kids today seem to have i think we have to blame technology for a lot of it,its made kids lazy in every way......where years ago if you wanted to talk to your pals you went round and knocked for them now they just send a text and facebook whatever they do......much as technology has improved communications in many ways its also broken down communications and relationships especially for youngsters they can have friendships/arguments/fall out/make up without ever even needing to look in each others eyes or even speak in some cases !!......For rough young lads like us arguing and fighting was good healthy fun that taught you so much about life and morals and assessing peoples characters even from a very young age....yet today they have a quick text war or facebook fallout and learn nothing......I always thought technology was great for kids and maybe not something for us older generations......im starting to wonder if its actually the other way round !

Kids these days don't wont to go out or just moan there's nothing to do. Was nothing really to do most of the time when I was out but you found stuff some how. As for working for pocket money...I used to convince the kid in the flat downstairs to nick sweets from costcutter and got half for being look out lol. I remember wanting to be out so bad that being grounded was the punishment. My mum would have to chub the door otherwise we'd open the door and run out minute she wasnt in the hallway.

I do also think though the world today is a different place. I'm onl 23 and used to think all old people talked out their arse when they said the classic line. "Things was alot different in my day". These days younger and younger kids are hurting each other alot worse. Knifes and stuff always been around I know but when I was 14 most you got was an unfair fight because his mates jumped in. These days kids seem to not have a childhood as long.

I work in the sports and leisure industry. The amount of overweight un active children that are now in your average school class is truly shocking.

One recent thing that did bring it all home happened the other week.... I was on one site and Kevin, one of the managers there, was sat on reception working out rota's and was deep in thought. Now Kev ain't the happy go lucky sort, surly and intense at times, he's a very 'driven' sort of bloke, with a former sports background and now a passion for the outdoor life.

Anyways, Kev's sat there engrossed, when this chubby kid of about 9 or 10 walk's up to him, iphone in hand, speakers in ears and asks in a very posh 'plumb in mouth' way,"Do you have a wi fi password I could use...?"

Kev slowly stops writing, looks up, glares at the kid and growls, "Why don't you just go climb a tree...!" Then returns to his rota, whilst the kid stood, dumb struck by the comment... :boogy:
