Blackbriar 8,569
Mine are still too young to work - so they work in the house. Pocket money isn't free. Do the cleaning, earn a few quid. Do nothing, go to the shop and look through the window wishing you'd earned your pocket money I worked from the age of 13 - 2-3 nights a week after school and weekends. Builds character lol i think I'm in love.............................

forest of dean redneck 11,596
Just had call off parents, they have 2 boys staying with them, and the 10 year old ran ahead and jumped up on a loading bay , tried spinning round the rain drenched grab rail, slipped off backwards onto concrete. They just spent couple hours in AE, waiting for his head to be glued back up.
jigsaw 11,863
you lot had a privileged life, when I was young we had ferkin nothin, lol couldnt afford long trousers.......and heres the proof me mother knitted that cardigan for me,lol I had fek all toys so I played with a stick.that stick became my best mate..........till I met this best mate we kept chickens out the back yard and me father used to ''prepare'' one every weekend for the sunday dinner,it used to make him sick as he hadnt the stomach to kill anything, lol he never hunted and was against it if the truth be told. my eldest son was brought up in the country,he enjoyed it to a point,he was fishing at the age of 4,he still does a day fishing here and there we shot rabbits and hares together and ate what we caught, I bought him his first pair of wellies at 2 years of age,the shop assistant told mne he'd grow into them.............he did last year after a day on the lakes in mayo, I brought home babby bunnies,as you can see he was not impressed lol he helped with the lambs on a farm at times not leaving the daughter out,she was reared with all types of pit bulls, and never did we have any instance of aggression of any form from them i think their all the better for it,they can adjust to anything, from the loss of their grandparents to the success of getting employment they strived for.I always believed in thrusting them into the affray and let them decide how they will deal with it,just be there for them when they turn to you. NEWKID 27,144
The days are gone when as 8 or 9 year old you could wander and roam wherever you wanted and play till you got hungry and had to go home. I know i wouldn't turf my youngsters out like that anymore due to the dodgy adults that are lurking. Tbh that'd be my only fear. Early 70's when i was a nipper nonses were not heard of. Think alot of it nowadays is that kids need a constant eye kept on them whilst out because of dodgy characters. Do you really reckon there weren't nonces about? I reckon there were just as many sickos then. They just seem more prevalent these days due to the internet. Don't you remember all those "Don't talk to strangers" talks? Yes of course there was..........most noncing is done by people in trust anyway & often go's unreported.....definitely more paranoia about kids getting snatched off the street though.... Child abduction and murder has shown a steady , sustained and continued decline over the last 30 years.............FACT Is that not because the kids are all indoors??
NEWKID 27,144
Put the effort in as a parent and you get the rewards, Just back from 2 weeks in Guernsey, every day on the water, in the water, out side doing stuff, catching stuff and seeing stuff.. You won't get that from an arm chair.. I've posted a lot of pics of the kids in the big outdoors, but it's mainly with me, unfortunately I don't feel comfortable letting the little ones roam ( 6years And 8 years) But as an 8 year old I was out all day everyday.. My fault as a worrying parent I suppose? Just means I've got to get off my fat ass and show them the things I loved as a kid... Fortunately I still love it all now!
