Dan25 87
Well going to start ferreting in a couple of weeks got a 11 month old pup should I have her loose to begin with when working a bury or should I have her on a slip would it be better for her to work with another dog to get the hang of it she is completely stock broken but not the greatest recall once she's after something any advice Quote Link to post
tsteve9999 456
She'll have to be loose at some time or another if your going to use her so as long as she's good with the ferts I'd say let her free from the off. She'll probably be a pain in the arse to begin with, messing the nets up and such but they soon learn whats what. Quote Link to post
Fennster16 29
Firm up her recall and leave commands, if she is alittle noisey teach her "quiet". When out on your normal walks get her to sniff some holes and she if she sets? Mine noses then sits other are different then give her loads of praise. I would get her use to not standing on the nets, then take her out to watch with an older dog, let her mouth their catch and again loads of praise when she lets go. Start on a slip then move to free movement. Good luck with your pup and season :-) i taught mine to be soft mouthed but that is your preference Quote Link to post
The one 8,528
As said while you have time work on your recall etc with the dog , let the dog move with the action over the burrow and it should be at the right place to snap up the bolsters etc Quote Link to post
