David.evans 5,323
Out last nite , with nite site . 40 yards from the hedge line, with out nite site on the gun , then I set up the nite site , and focused the nite site with the side wheel and the range showed about 28 yards on the wheel , I know that the side wheel is bang on the ranges I've marked on it , so I'm thinking that the difference with the nite site on is down to the camera been attached to scope , so I'm getting the distance wrong with the nite site attached , any ideas as to where it's going wrong ? Thans in advance Dave Quote Link to post
shergar 42
don't think there's out wrong , same thing with my home brew night vision where the range wheel on the scope don't match up with the actual range , could be something to do with magnification of the lens on the camera as long as the zero stays the same and you get a clear image don't worry about it. shergar Quote Link to post
TimS 49
Easy answer. Infrared light works at a different frequency to visible light, so as a result your optics focus points will be different for infrared. Tim Quote Link to post
David.evans 5,323
So what your saying Tim . Is buy another ranging wheel and mark it up to match the foucus when the nite site is on and re zero Dave If all that makes any scene at all Quote Link to post
shergar 42
you could also use a laser for range finding at night, watch one of si pittaways videos vermin hunters tv on youtube he can explain it better than I can. for some reason it won't let me copy and paste the link . shergar Quote Link to post
TimS 49
I guess that could work. I never tried. Instead I prefer to sit in a fixed position and mark out my distances using sticks with some reflective tape during the day. Then at night, the sticks shine at 10yd intervals, so I know how far quarry is. Quote Link to post
shergar 42
I do the same , put garden canes every 10yrds but I like the idea of the reflective tape going to try that next time out . Quote Link to post
