WILF 46,786
I knew an old boy, went through the 2nd world war as a pow in one of the biggest prison camps. I read about the place and it was savage, not enough to eat and gang warfare......now this old boy had to survive and ended up doing what he had to do He had watched mates die, seen how savage men can be to other men and after the war spent plenty of time behind the door.......yet, he still went to church and never lost his faith. Only he could have said why..........I can only assume it's because that amongst all the filth and dirt of life, your faith and the feeling it gives you will always remain clean and pure.

gnasher16 30,095
Well I was raised without any faith no one in my family are remotely religious. No one at school or any of my school mates. What they were teaching me at school, yes I understood the Biology lessons and yes I could see the Darwin theory working in a way but there were so many unanswered questions I remember even teachers fumbled when asked. So move on a couple of decades and like Wilf I just got to start asking myself questions as it just didnt seem right. The question Ive always used to struggle to answer is this If we are a product of Darwinism and we are evolved from apes why are we so far removed and advanced than any other speicies onthis planet? Think about it why cant apes do even the simplest of things such as light fires to keep warm and cook, create clothing to wear or make basic tools? Yet here I am sat in a house typing on a computer connected to the world wide web with the TV in the back ground not to mention a million other things such as language, communiction, aviation, space travel you get the point? I just can not see how we could be so far evolved than any other speicies, that was the first question I asked and I could not find an answer, so I carried on and Im still searching but as far as Im concered after 20 years of looking Christianity is my belief and my faith. When I discovered the apostles after the crucifixion went to differnet areas of the globe and each were put to death rather than denounce what they had witnessed whilst they had been with Jesus I thought wow youd expect half of them to have backed down and said "no mate I'm making it up sorry" no they all were put to death rather than say they hadnt witnessed christ. Even the Scottish flag is taken from St Andrew one of the apostles who was asked to be crucified in an X shape rather than the the traditional cross as he didnt think it was appropriate to die the same way as Jesus. The majority of his bones are in the Cathedral at Amalfi some of his bones were brought to Scotland hence the reason he is Patron Saint so you can see this is not make belief it is history and part of our history. Ive not joined in too much on this thread but wanted to just say for the last 10 years Ive stopped being concerned what other people thought of me, many times Ive been asked if I believe in God (I used to say what me? no way non of that shit") and even people who have known me for years are gob smacked when I tell them what I believe, it either goes two ways, either they want to know more or it turns into a complete piss take which is fine because when I start asking them questions its clear they are just a product of an ignorant upbringing who have not really questioned anything in their lives. Occasionally you find somone who has a deep rooted science belief and those are the best conversations providing ridcule is not a method of conversation. At least one of my best mates is a pagan which is fine by me its up to them at least they believe in somthing, for someone to beleive in nothing now that saddens me. Sorry if I went on a bit ATB What a cracking post....im a nightmare around names so i might have the wrong person but ive got an idea it was a few of Seekers posts on this subject that have caught my eye before......very simple to understand and thoughts i can certainly relate to,nice to read that was mate .......same story for me really religion didnt play any part whatsoever in my upbringing, even at school i paid no attention to what they was on about it just bored me.......if it wasnt for a few people close to me who i have a lot of respect for and their own encounters with God i would probably still have no interest now but seeing people you think you know well change before your very eyes just impressed me so much i felt it necessary to investigate further......mostly through talking and asking silly questions until such time as you feel the need to start communicating with the source directly but not really knowing how to........which led to one of the most surreal experiences of my religious journey so far if i can call it that.... sitting praying with a man ive known since childhood but only ever known for violence and dishonesty......it was probably a crazy looking scene the two of us and when i think back to the type of conversations we used to have years ago i cant help but wonder if this is for a greater good. fieldsman 51
laugh away lads plenty ofevidence to back it up,now I beleive in an intelligent designer, proof everywere, you beleive in dirt.now who stupid now your ancestors far back is slime which ran of rocks, then intermediates which never been found to apes ffs yes it has its not a coincidence that human dna can be found through history whole and in part tracing our evolution to long before religion.Evolutionary changes that can be followed back to prehistoric times and yes we are animals clever monkeys and provable .I have nothing against you beleiving in religion but it is a fact that religion as a whole stifles intelligence and innovation the average iq in strict religious countries is lower than those not proving it helps you beleive if your a bit thick and vice versa .Ever told a tall tale to a child same as

Tiercel 6,986
if you want to find out the truth of bible http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/a-lamp-in-the-dark-the-untold-history-of-the-bible/ The problem is Fraz, is that for every bit of information that is pro bible, you have an equal amount that is just as plausible for atheism. Regarding the born again Christians I known of three that became evangelical once they thought that they had found Christianity. All three were right wasters before their revelation. In my own humble opinion their revelation, was actually just growing up, and finding out that they are not the centre of the universe, the world does not revolve around them and them coming to terms with that.
