, I have also witnessed some of the biggest changes ever in folk that have accepted god, I openly admit to being a believer, beven if I don't know all the facts, I may be deluded but I'm happy

Exactly the same as me only i dont feel im deluded......i dont see the issue with believing but not knowing exactly why, like anything we do in life we have an instinct to follow in the direction our heart takes us...... and along that path im yet to see anything that makes me stand back and say no this is wrong,so with no bias i,ll continue to push more doors open until im completely happy with what i know to be truth in heart and mind......its part of what i find hard to accept with non believers and aethiests in that it leaves no room for human emotions.

The way they say " its a coping mechanism " well coping with what .... i have nothing in my life i need God to cope with for me my relationship with God is through choice not necessity.

When I was a child I prayed to god and asked for a bike, but I knew god didn't work that way so I stole one and asked for forgiveness instead ?.

I will clearly state that my belief is that God does NOT exist. However, you can't prove that something doesn't exist, so if your telling me that I'm wrong, then I'm going to need some proof. Proof th

I've had a google and they reckon it's about 5000 pairs. What I can't understand if God was so powerful, powerful enough that he can make the world, he could do all these amazing things. He summons a

I think when people say "it's a coping mechanism", they're explanation/theory is perhaps a bit misunderstood.... or at least not fully explained.

My opinion is that faith is a coping mechanism, theism is an extrapolation of faith which very satisfactorily answers many more of the Universes unknowns. We all have faith, even us atheists, it's part of being human. Faith is simply belief in the absence of evidence, it's belief against probability..... it's absolutely necessary to our survival and in difficult situations it's people that have faith that they'll come good that will stand the best chance of actually coming out in one piece. They fight on when there is no hope because something inside them tells them everything will be alright. Some people associate that with a higher being and others, more rationally associate it with an evolved mechanism of our psychology. But we ALL have faith in us!

Religion, or more generally theism, is just, imo, a natural progression from that. In a world with so many questions and so much unknown God ties it all up quite nicely...

So this "coping mechanism" theory isn't unique to theists, it doesn't make anybody weak or stupid! No doubt some people follow religion through their own weaknesses and some reject it through weakness. I'd actually say they are rejecting truth through weakness but whatever. Nonetheless, we are all human and whether you are a theist or an atheist it doesn't make you weak or strong of mind simply based on that alone. Weakness is hiding from the truth because it scares you.

Because it is a book of fairytales pal xxx

Makes me laugh that any of you believe it. I mean the noah's ark for example a story from pre Jewish times as in before the feckin bible was ever a twinkle in a lonely nutters eye. This story was in Gilgamesh's tales ffs and you tits claim it as fact. Believing that all of humanity I decendrd from just two people (factually impossible due to the amount of differnces in DNA, genes and mutations) yeah we are the idiots  said it before i'd put more stock on a MR Men book
